Acqua di Parma Capri Orange Lip Balm

Posted by Anjali on 12 October 2005 12 Comments

Acqua di Parma Capri Orange Lip BalmDevotees of Acqua di Parma’s Blu Mediterraneo Capri Orange (formerly Arancia) Eau de Toilette already know that the bergamot, mandarin, lemon and orange fragrance is one of the most pure, bright and happy citrus perfumes around. The matching lip balm carries that same clear sunshiny scent, and applying it to one’s lips is like inhaling the smell of an orange grove in summer. The balm also boasts fabulous moisturizing power — a coconut oil, beeswax and shea butter formula creates a thin but emollient and lasting barrier against dryness. It is supposedly enriched with vitamins for “free radical defense,” and has the far less debatable benefit of broadband UVA and UVB SPF 20 protection as well.

The lip balm comes encased in a turquoise blue metallic tube which certainly looks attractive, but the metal is so thin and light it feels flimsy, and the fact that the balm inside is molded into a narrow sculpted lipstick-wedge instead of a traditional solid cylinder of wax only compounds the impression. The printed white lettering on the outside also chips and rubs off easily. This makes it look cheap, but it is anything but: at $27 – $30 for a 5 ml tube, it is one of the most expensive lip balms you can buy…

Frederic Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire ~ fragrance review

Posted by Robin on 5 October 2005 11 Comments

Vetiver Extraordinaire by Frederic Malle

Vétiver Extraordinaire was released by Frederic Malle in 2002. The fragrance was created by nose Dominique Ropion, and includes bergamot, bigarade orange, pink pepper, nutmeg, floralozone (a “fresh air” note), Haitian vetyver, sandalwood, cedarwood, oak moss, myrrh, cashmeran, musketone and tonalide (synthetic musks). It is said to have one of the highest concentrations of vetiver of any fragrance on the market (25%).

It starts with a brief flash of very dry citrus. It is quickly joined by the spice notes, and for a few minutes, it is extremely diffusive, which I assume is the floralozone talking. After that calms, it smells like damp mossy woods and vetiver, and there is almost no point in trying to dissect it further, as it simply smells like the sum of its parts, and if you love vetiver, it smells very wonderful indeed…

Jaqua Foaming Caramel Cappuccino Hydrating Body Syrup

Posted by Anjali on 4 October 2005 12 Comments

Jaqua Foaming Caramel Cappucccino Hydrating Body SyrupJaqua Foaming Caramel Cappuccino Hydrating Shower Syrup is one of a trio of shower gels offered in the Jaqua Café Collection, along with Soothing Vanilla Latte and Steamy Chai Spice Latte. As far as functionality goes, the Caramel Cappuccino is a well-made product with a pleasingly thick texture and adequate lathering and moisturizing properties, but the real draw is its magnificent fragrance.

“Foaming Caramel Cappuccino” is a slightly misleading title as there is only a faint trace of a coffee aroma; the predominant note is the alluring, mouthwatering smell of real, sweet, deep caramel…

Boucheron Trouble Dry Oil Spray

Posted by Anjali on 27 September 2005 6 Comments

Boucheron Trouble perfume advertBoucheron Trouble dry oil

Trouble, the last major feminine release from Boucheron Paris, is a sensual oriental fragrance composed of citron, digitalis, jasmine sambac, precious woods, vanilla amber and blue cedar. The perfume comes in a full range of scented products including shower gel, body cream, body milk and a dry oil spray. The dry oil is my favorite of the moisturizers. It does not have the rich texture of the cream, nor does it sink in as deep as the body milk, but it is by far the most convenient to apply — the fragrance is infused into a blend of magnolia, sweet almond and camellia oils that spritzes easily into a light layer and is rapidly absorbed with minimal mess or fuss…

Luctor et Emergo Enriched Body Cream by The People of the Labyrinths

Posted by Anjali on 19 September 2005 21 Comments

Luctor et Emergo Enriched Body Cream

Those that have not yet tried the cult fragrance Luctor et Emergo by the Dutch fashion house, The People of The Labyrinths, will probably balk at the cost of the matching Enriched Perfume Body Cream: $95 for 200 ml. In fact, even this confirmed fan of the perfume was a bit taken aback. However, I have found this is a product whose quality matches its high price tag and it is an experience all to itself, just as rich and captivating as the perfume.

The presentation is exquisite…
