Aftelier Organic Honeysuckle Face Elixir ~ scented body product review

Posted by Jessica on 14 November 2014 12 Comments

Lonicera caprifolium

Mandy Aftel of Aftelier has been creating fragranced facial oils for the past twenty years or so, rotating various blends in and out of production. I’ve been an admirer of Aftelier’s “elixirs” for the past year, since I first tried them, and I still haven’t decided which blend I prefer, the Organic Ylang or the Organic Rose; both are gorgeous (and effective). Now there’s a third blend, and it’s making my decision even more difficult. It’s the new Organic Honeysuckle Face Elixir, scented with “rare honeysuckle absolute from Italy.”

This facial elixir is richly fragranced: if you apply it to your face at bedtime, not only will you drift off to sleep on a wave of lush floral notes, you might even smell the scent again when you wash your face the next morning…

Lush So White Shower Gel & Yog Nog Soap ~ scented body product reviews

Lush So White Shower Gel & Yog Nog Soap

Yes, I’m one of those people: I’m truly dismayed when Christmas decorations and holiday items start showing up in stores in mid-October. What’s the rush? One of the very few exceptions, in my book, is the annual holiday-season collection from Lush. I always look forward to buying a few bars of Snowcake soap, and this year I was desperate to grab a new bottle of Rose Jam Shower Gel. I also picked up two new items: So White Shower Gel and Yog Nog Soap. (I am weak.)

So White is the liquid counterpart to a bath bomb of the same name, which I never tried. It’s a pearly white shower gel “with fresh apple infusion and cheerful neroli oil to leave skin bright and beautifully perfumed.” I’m not normally a fan of apple perfumes or apple-scented products, but So White’s apple fragrance is so crisp and tart and weirdly realistic…

Korres Jasmine Shower Gel ~ quick body product review

Posted by Robin on 3 June 2014 39 Comments

Korres Jasmine Shower Gel

I’m always on the lookout for great shower gels in my favorite floral fragrances — and that’s especially true now that I’m running out of two of my favorite Lush gels, Rose Jam (gosh, I do hope Lush brings back Rose Jam!) and Flying Fox.

Flying Fox, for those of you who haven’t tried it, is jasmine, and jasmine in a big way. It’s sweet and strong, and I can often smell it in the hallway outside my bathroom hours after I used it, although it doesn’t linger on skin to speak of. Every other jasmine shower gel I’ve tried smells positively wimpy in comparison, but I recently got a bottle of Korres Jasmine to test,1 and it’s a possible contender…

Rituals Foaming Shower Gel Sensation ~ scented body product review

Posted by Jessica on 9 May 2014 13 Comments

Rituals Foaming Shower Gel Sensation

Rituals is a Dutch bath-and-body company founded in 2000, but since it only began selling its products in the United States about six months ago — first at Barneys, then in a Rituals storefront in New York’s SoHo neighborhood — I didn’t have the chance to try them until this winter. The Rituals product line is extensive, so I started with one of its best-selling products: Foaming Shower Gel Sensation, a new twist on an everyday shower item, available in six scents.

Whereas most shower-friendly body cleansers are thick liquids sold in bottles with flip-tops or pump dispensers, Rituals’ shower gel is packaged in a metal canister like a shaving product. It acts like a shaving product, too, turning from a stream of translucent gel into a fluffy, foamy lather when it hits a damp washcloth or a mesh puff. (I prefer the latter for all my shower needs.) I’m not sure what the benefit of this foaming technology is; maybe it’s just a gimmick? As a body product, this gel-foam is effective and seems gentle on the skin, but I wouldn’t be recommending it if I didn’t enjoy the fragrances, too…

Lulu Organics Lavender & Clary Sage Hair Oil ~ scented body product review

Posted by Jessica on 28 March 2014 11 Comments

Lulu Organics Lavender & Clary Sage Hair Oil

I’ve wholeheartedly embraced the beauty oil trend of the past few years. I’ve been a fan of body oils for a while, and now that I’ve incorporated facial oils and hair oils into my regimen as well, I keep wanting to recommend them to other people. My latest crush in this product category is Lulu Organics Lavender & Clary Sage Hair Oil. Its ingredients (all organic) are argan oil, soy oil, apricot kernel oil, olive oil, camelina oil, rosemary, horsetail and essential oils, and its scent is “the clean and intoxicating aroma of lavender perfectly partnered with an invigorating clary sage and a touch of rosemary.”

What exactly does one do with a hair oil? Just think of it as an intensive, leave-in moisturizing product…
