Commodity Book ~ fragrance review

Posted by Jessica on 8 June 2017 27 Comments

books

My most cherished scent memories as a child were in the library experiencing real books which created a world of wonder and exploration. Living now in a technological world filled with iPads, Commodity Book takes you into the New York Public Library to recapture the experience of yesterday; turning the pages and breathing in the smell of dry paper mingling in with the open fresh air.

That’s a quote from Ketrin Leka, the perfumer who developed the fragrance Book for niche brand Commodity. How could I resist, right? I love reading more than almost anything else, and I do as much of my reading as possible from actual books, and the Main Reading Room at the New York Public Library’s 42nd Street branch is one of my favorite places in the world.

Given my paired bibliophilia and aromaphilia, you’d think I’d fall hard for Book. Did I? Not really…

Vero Profumo Naja ~ fragrance review

Posted by Kevin on 7 June 2017 49 Comments

Vishnu Reclining on Ananta

Swiss niche line Vero Profumo is celebrating its 10th anniversary with Naja1 — a limited edition fragrance.

The name Naja has associations with the cobra and its semi-divine representations known as Nāgas. The Nāgas are linked to water; from India to Thailand these mythic creatures live near rivers, ponds, lakes, and often “haunt” wells. Old Hindu tradition said the part-human, part-snake beings would only bite evil people or those who would not live to be old. Art showcasing the Nāgas (and their female counterparts Nāgis or Nāginis) is wonderful…

Parfums DelRae Bois de Paradis ~ fragrance review

Posted by Angela on 5 June 2017 53 Comments

Parfums DelRae Bois de Paradis

Nearly a decade ago, I sampled Parfums DelRae Bois de Paradis at a big city chi-chi perfume boutique. The person helping me sniffed my forearm and shook his head. “No. Not for you.” And that was it. I figured Bois de Paradis and I suffered a chemical mismatch. So, I moved on.

Last week, I stumbled over my Bois de Paradis sample vial and decided to ignore the long-ago opinion and give it another try. I loved it…

viola

The freebiemeet is open! Our rules have changed, so PLEASE read the instructions, even if you’ve read them before! Really, pretty please, with sugar on top! There’s not even that many of them, and you will save us all so much time and confusion. This is not that hard. Plus, it’s free stuff! It’s all good, but it’s even better if you read the instructions.

New rules are in purple. If you have any questions about the rules, please post them under The freebiemeet rules.

For people who would like to chat in addition to, or instead of, giving and getting free stuff, there will be a poll along shortly…

The freebiemeet rules

Posted by Robin on 2 June 2017 16 Comments

The freebiemeet is tomorrow — for anyone who wants them, here are the new rules in advance. Everything that has changed I have posted here in bold purple. (And I meant to post this earlier this week so I apologize. I am having a very hard time catching up this spring!)

I know there were many suggestions for rules that I did not include. My hope is to keep it simple, avoid rules I cannot easily enforce, and as much as possible, avoid hurt feelings. Going forward, we are going to hold the freebiemeet three times a year instead of two — the next freebiemeet will be in September. So, other changes…
