The splitmeet, episode 21

Posted by Robin on 18 May 2024 32 Comments — Comments are closed

orchid-thirds

The splitmeet (episode 21) is open for business. PLEASE read the instructions! For people who would like to chat in addition to, or instead of, splitting, there will be a poll along shortly.

Don’t know what a bottle split is, or you know but you’ve never tried it? See here.

Please note that the intention of the splitmeet is to split newly purchased bottles of perfume, not to sell decants of fragrances already in your collection! Anyone can join a split, but only people with current, active reader accounts may host splits. Update: in other words, you cannot host a split if you have never commented here before the day the splitmeet opens…

5 floral perfumes I’m wearing for spring ~ fragrance reviews

Posted by Jessica on 29 March 2024 14 Comments

I’ve had trouble deciding what to wear lately, in these weeks when the weather around New York City keeps tilting between blustery and balmy, soggy and sunny — what clothing to wear, that is. I’ve had an easier time choosing fragrances that suit this season-shift. Some of them are old favorites, like Frédéric Malle L’Eau D’Hiver (the classic “eau chaude” scent). Others are perfumes that I’ve only encountered over the past year or even the past few months. Here are five of the latter.

Travel is always a good reason to buy a new perfume, and my recent trip to London included a visit to Liberty, just in time for the launch of their new LBTY fragrance collection. Each scent is inspired by, and packaged in, a textile design from Liberty’s archives…

The Monday Mail ~ help Marta find a new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 26 February 2024 55 Comments

Marta fell in love with perfumes in 2007 when she discovered Serge Lutens Chergui and Frédéric Malle Musc Ravageur. Since then she has been an avid reader of Now Smell This (and she also loves our own Angie’s cozy mysteries).

She’s currently searching for a signature scent for special events, something that will make her feel both chic and professional, like her longtime favorite Frédéric Malle Portrait of a Lady. She still finds Portrait of a Lady beautiful but she’s overly used to it now, and no other perfume in her collection feels powerful and special enough to be its replacement. Her perfect perfume will be as cold and chic as a Hitchcock blonde, but also with some wit and panache. So, icy and interesting.

Can we help?

Here is what we know about Marta…

The Monday Mail ~ help Scentred2 find a new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 5 February 2024 47 Comments

Scentred participated at Now Smell This and other fragrance blogs for some years, but then life took her other places…now, after 10 years or so, she’s back, as Scentred2, and eager to catch up. She’s hoping we’ll help her get back in the game. She loves her current collection, but she’d love to find something new, unique, unexpected and beautifully put together, and she no longer knows what brands or perfumes are worth the time and effort of sampling. Can we help her get started?

Here is what we know about Scentred2…
