The only perfumer in the world to cultivate his own ingredients

Posted by Robin on 6 June 2024 Leave a Comment

According to Matiere Premiere, Guichard is the only perfumer in the world to cultivate his own ingredients, namely the Rose centifolia in its Radical Rose scent, and tuberose, the central raw material in its French Flower fragrance.

The brand has dedicated fields in the Grasse region, with the entire production exclusively for its use, and said that by prioritising sourcing from additional ethical producers for other ingredients, it can ensure an ultra-high olfactive quality and level of sustainability in its practices.

A bouquet of roses

Posted by Robin on 5 June 2024 Leave a Comment

In a fascinating 2020 study, researchers in Reykjavik delved into the olfactory abilities of more than 11,000 Icelanders. They discovered a genetic quirk that alters one’s perception of fishy scents. While this rare mutation affects only about 2 percent of Icelanders, it’s practically unheard of in African countries (0.2 percent) and is scantily present in other parts of Europe (0.8 percent). To those born with the genetic mutation, the fish smells transform into something more akin to a bouquet of roses.

This very casual approach

Posted by Robin on 4 June 2024 3 Comments

"We came onto the market as this very casual approach to fragrance. When we launched, fragrance felt very stuffy, old school, and glamorous. Everything was sold to you in this very formal way. That's not who I am as a person. I want something that feels approachable, wearable, just beautiful products doing great things and easily incorporated into your life,” she explains.

As you increase concentrations of d-limonene

Posted by Robin on 31 May 2024 Leave a Comment

One of the things that was so cool about this, at least according to the researchers I talked to, was that this increasing concentration of d-limonene didn’t impact the feeling of the high at all. So you got this really targeted effect: basically as you increase concentrations of d-limonene, this particular terpene, you just see people’s anxious reactions go down, but they aren’t reporting feeling that their high is any less or different. It’s mostly just the anxiety.
