After receiving a request, the ‘Eau De-Liveroo Rider’ will scoot to the rescue in as little as 15 minutes, offering customers a 5ml sample from a choice of ten best-selling perfumes to spray and take away, for free, including Prada Paradoxe, Mugler Alien, Montblanc Explorer, and Hugo Boss Bottled.

Deliveroo and The Perfume Shop have rolled out a national partnership with 21 stores now available on the Deliveroo app, offering over 1,000 different products available at the touch of a button.

Vanilla caramel perfume

The search term ‘vanilla gourmand fragrances’ has been searched for 887,000 times and has increased 141.10% in interest over the last month.

Gourmands, more generally, are the biggest emerging fragrance category on TikTok, with ‘vanilla caramel perfume’ being the most searched-for combination, reaching 800,000 searches and increasing by 129%.

A bright spot

On the heels of fashion month, French conglomerate LVMH confirmed what the industry has been feeling for months: The luxury sector is slowing. But during its earnings call for the third quarter of 2024, the owner of Dior and Louis Vuitton shared a bright spot amid an overall decline: fragrance. For the first nine months of 2024, LVMH reported a 5% increase in revenue in its perfume and cosmetics division compared to the same period in 2023, reaching €6.1 billion ($6.6 billion) in revenue.

Our sense of smell has a speed similar to that of color perception

But the new device Zhou and her team designed tells a different story. It detects the beginning of a sniff using changes in nasal pressure and then triggers the release of two odors, with one slightly farther from the nose than the other.

More than 200 participants were exposed to the sequences of two chemical odors in a single sniff. [...]

Test subjects were able to discern different sequences with above-chance accuracy, even when the odors were delivered only 60 milliseconds apart. The results suggest that our sense of smell has a speed similar to that of color perception.
