For today’s generation of teenage boys, fragrance is no longer an afterthought

For today's generation of teenage boys, fragrance is no longer an afterthought (or a stash of Axe box sets collated from last-minute Christmas presents gifted by distant relatives)—it's the password to an exclusive club that every adolescent male wants to be a part of. While girls as young as 12 are becoming self-proclaimed beauty experts and searching for the next best retinol certainly not suitable for their skin, young boys are leaving their mark (and scent) on the $62.11 billion global fragrance market, seeking high-end smells that define notes of their personalities.

The gods were honored with exotic fragrances

Perfumes were not only used to beautify the sculptures but also served a ritual function. In ancient Greece and Rome, the gods were honored with exotic fragrances and scented oils. In the sanctuary of Delos, epigraphic inscriptions detail the costs and composition of the perfumes used for the kosmesis (adornment) of the statues of Artemis and Hera. These included olive oils, beeswax, natron (sodium carbonate), and rose perfumes.

More literary dreams

Posted by Robin on 13 March 2025 2 Comments

If you can think of nothing dreamier than crawling into bed with a stack of good books, consider elevating the whole experience with a spritz of Diptyque’s most bookish perfume. Inspired by the smell of paper, the white musk is infused with notes of steamed rice, mimosa, and blonde wood. The calming French scent is sure to deliver more literary dreams—perhaps you’ll even dream up an idea for a bestselling novel.
