The very fruity part of the banana scent

Posted by Robin on 22 May 2025 Leave a Comment

The Barcelona-based perfume maker 27 87, which specializes in unconventional fragrances, recently launched its newest scent, Hakuna Matata, which pairs green banana peel and ripe banana with jasmine, orange blossom and a hint of honey. “We typically connect to the very fruity part of the banana scent,” says Romy Kowalewski, the brand’s creative director and founder. “It actually has another very sophisticated aspect — creamy with a subtle white floral note — that I wanted to highlight.”

Six thousand years of olfactory culture

From May 21 to Nov. 30, 2025, the Museum of Palazzo Mocenigo - home of the Center for the Study of the History of Textile, Costume and Perfume, in Venice is hosting the exhibition Journey through the History of Perfume. [...] The exhibition route unfolds along a scenic timeline, through which visitors can admire more than five hundred bottles, protected under elegant glass bells. These objects tell the story of six thousand years of olfactory culture. Alongside the original exhibits, seven historical fragrances have been faithfully recreated by the essence house Givaudan, starting with the original formulas.

What brands are doing is adapting edible-inspired scents for the hotter weather, developing perfumes “with less of the weight and warmth that makes us associate the category with fall and winter,” says Arielle Weinberg, founder of Arielle Shoshana.
