$2 million

Posted by Robin on 13 October 2022 12 Comments

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said his latest financial venture was seemingly inevitable: A new perfume tied to his name, "Burnt Hair."

The billionaire Musk, the world’s richest man according to Forbes, announced his latest investment into the perfume industry on Tuesday and he said within six hours sold 10,000 bottles of his branded fragrance. At $100 a bottle, the product made a quick $1 million, according to the company. Then late Wednesday, Musk announced it had sold another 10,000 to total 20,000 – $2 million.

A Scottish woman named Joy Milne made headlines in 2015 for an unusual talent: her ability to sniff out people afflicted with Parkinson’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative illness that is estimated to affect nearly a million people in the U.S. alone. Since then a group of scientists in the U.K. has been working with Milne to pinpoint the molecules that give Parkinson’s its distinct olfactory signature. The team has now zeroed in on a set of molecules specific to the disease—and has created a simple skin-swab-based test to detect them.

High-pitched and pungent

When working with a smell as high-pitched and pungent as a solvent or gas, what you do is use pleasant smells that are completely opposite, but with a similar volatility to make the overall scent more palatable. The contrast between the two extremes helps to smoothen the excess and, as a result, find a balance.
