A potential landmark sale of Giorgio Armani SpA

Posted by Robin on 12 September 2025 2 Comments

The late designer, who passed away at 91 earlier this month, left behind a detailed will that sets up a potential landmark sale of Giorgio Armani SpA starting with a 15% stake, rising to a full-blown takeover in three years. The three shortlisted suitors? LVMH (LVMHF), L'Oreal, and EssilorLuxottica each with deep ties to the Armani ecosystem and more than enough firepower to absorb the 57 billion valuation suggested by Berenberg analysts.

Simple happiness

“I do perfume as I would do a couture collection, not as a single look,” [Marc-Antoine Barrois] said. “Perfume tells a story. It’s a new imaginary world. With Tilia, I wanted to capture simple happiness, like a fantasy about a summer that never ends.”

Mr. Barrois described his collaboration with Mr. [Quentin] Bisch, who works at the fragrance manufacturer Givaudan, as one of “complete, almost unspoken” trust. The two men are the only ones to wear scents during their development and to finalize their compositions.

An astonishing number of olfactory receptor genes

The elephant’s trunk is far more than a long, flexible snout. It is a complex fusion of the nose and upper lip, packed with muscles, nerves, and sensory cells. Scientists have discovered that elephants have an astonishing number of olfactory receptor genes—around 2,000 types—making theirs the largest repertoire of any species studied so far. By comparison, dogs, which are considered masters of scent detection, have about 800 to 1,000 receptor types, and humans only around 400.

In the ever more competitive fragrance industry jungle, Dior Sauvage men’s scent ranks first among all fragrances — masculine and feminine combined — 10 years after its launch.

It is the only men’s scent to make that claim. Currently, one bottle is snapped up every 30 seconds and more than 12 million of those are rung up yearly.
