Cultivate connections with scents

Posted by Robin on 21 February 2023 Leave a Comment

While your mind may go straight to perfume or certain foods for scent-inspired nostalgia, there are a number of creative ways to get your nose going. [Jessica] Murphy says you can also cultivate connections with scents in your life through flavored tea, incense, spices, and fragranced body products. “When you use or taste something with a distinctive aroma,” she says, “take a moment to notice how it makes you feel or what comes to mind as you experience it.”

The perceived relative pleasantness of odorants

"Critically, across cultures, the perceived relative pleasantness of odorants seems to be equally robust—our effects are not driven by the peculiarities of one or two odorants or limited by the sample size of participants. This is striking and is contrary to what would have been predicted from a cultural relativity perspective,” the authors wrote.

Very emotional

Before he died last year at the age of 73, Mugler had a chance to smell the new fragrance in its early incarnation. “It was very emotional,” reveals perfumer Domitille Michalon-Bertier, who co-created the formula with Anne Flipo, of the designer’s encouraging reaction to the updated blend, which arrives in a dark blue version of the original five-pointed-star flacon. Mugler’s instincts seem to hold as much weight today as they did 30 years ago.
