Perfume: The Story of a Murderer ~ movie review
Stanley Kubrick said it couldn’t be done. And he wasn’t alone. The idea of transposing the magic of Patrick Süskind’s novel Perfume to the big screen raised doubts among movie buffs and Süskind fans alike. And yet, on September 14th, Tom Tykwer’s highly anticipated movie adaptation finally premiered in Germany. I happened to be in Berlin a week later, and bought a ticket to the most expensive production in German cinematic history. Despite the absence of red carpets and confetti, there was a sense of excitement at the theater entrance. The obvious question on everyone’s mind was: how will the movie compare to the book? But as the credits appeared at the end of the show, I realized that a side-by-side comparison would only do injustice to the movie.
Tykwer’s latest really does hold its own as a captivating, entertaining film…
Calling in sick…
...hope to be back on Sunday.
On vacation…
I am off on vacation again. As always, will try to post fragrance news if I can get wireless access, otherwise, look for another perfume review a week from Thursday (9/21).
Wishing everyone a good week, and if you haven't been fragrance shopping lately: get thee to the perfume counters. There is so much new stuff out I can hardly keep up. Over the weekend I managed very quick sniffs of Bvlgari Pour Homme Soir, Desperate Housewives, With Love Hilary Duff, Betsey Johnson, Escada Into The Blue. I also got samples of the new Banana Republic scents, but haven't even opened them yet. Too many fragrances, too little time...
Next fragrance review: Tuesday…
We are heading to Vermont for a wedding this weekend, and as always, I'm running behind...so no review today, sorry! If it turns out that we have wireless internet access, I'll post the latest fragrance news on Saturday, but otherwise, come back next Tuesday for a new perfume review.
Meanwhile, do comment if you've tried anything fabulous from the new fall releases. I'm behind on testing as well, and haven't even seen the new Betsey Johnson or Viktor & Rolf Antidote, or scores of others.
