For A., can anyone think of a fragrance similar to Kiehl's Musk oil, but without any synthetic ingredients?
Giving thanks
Today is Thanksgiving, the day the United States commemorates the three-day feast held by the Pilgrims in 1621 to celebrate the bountiful harvest. Members of the local Wapanoag tribe attended, but their descendents are wondering if they would have been better off if they had not cooperated with the Pilgrims.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the Citizen of the Month blog has called for a Thank Your First Commenter Day. Blogging without comments would be dull to say the least, so I would like to give a big shout out to both of the lovely ladies who commented on my first day: Pillowcase and Annieytown…
New contributor on perfume books
I am very pleased to announce that Marcello A. will be joining us as a contributor on perfume books. Marcello wrote his graduation thesis on the rise of unisex perfumes in the 1990s, and is currently working on a research project entitled Perfume and Gender Identity, in which he explores the social origins of the gender distinction in perfumery. He recently discussed his research in an interview on Bois de Jasmin. His own site, ScentedPages, is a virtual library catalogue dedicated to the culture of perfume. Look for Marcello's first article later in the week.
One of those days…
Due to a series of technical & non-technical difficulties this morning, the review I had hoped to post on Caron Alpona is not ready, and since it is looking like it will just be that sort of day, I am giving up while I am ahead. Come back tomorrow for more on Caron Alpona, which may turn out to be my favorite fragrance discovery (yes, it has been around since 1939 and I am just discovering it) this fall.
Have you discovered an old classic recently? Please comment, I'd love to know what else I'm missing.
Note: the lovely ad is from the site Parfum de Pub.
New contributor on scented body products
I am very pleased to announce that Now Smell This will soon have a new contributor covering scented body products, including soaps, creams, bath gels, you name it. Anjali describes herself as "fanatical about scented bath and body products", and reports that her "supply of LUSH alone could bathe a small country". Look for her first review early next week, on Luctor et Emergo Enriched Body Cream by People of the Labyrinths.
If you have any suggestions for other topics you'd like to see covered here, please comment!
