The newest Astier de Villatte incense flavor: Porte des Lilas. "A dream of times past: next stop, Porte des Lilas. At the exit of the Paris Métro 20s metro station, the stairs bring travellers to alleys neatly bordered by pretty little houses, with mauve lilacs overflowing their garden fences, mixed here and there with puffs of rose and jasmine. A hearty serving of 125 sticks in a comely blue box that is the finishing touch in many a chic room. Created in collaboration with Françoise Caron and made in Awaji, Japan - home of the best incense in the world thanks to its favorable climate, made in a thousand year old tradition handed down from father to son." $50 at Catbird (and they don't have them, but the scent does also come in a candle and perfumed eraser).

"The scent of roses bursting through richly charred soil. Their lush petals strike a beautiful contrast against the deep, smoky earthiness of their environs, life, death, and rebirth all in one. Beauty in chiaroscuro, universal balance- an unforgettable scent." Doesn't that sound tempting? It's the Asphalte Rose candle from Mad et Len, and it's huge (300g) but also spendy ($105). At Luckyscent.

Hat tip to David, who found us this bargain at the Harrods sale. The Domus Aurea Diffuser from Dr. Vranjes ("Purveyor of blending the purest natural ingredients with the world's finest essential oils, Dr. Vranjes makes home fragrance a more decadent and luxurious affair. Fitted with a prestigious marble cork sourced from the Apuan Alps, this 24-karat gold leaf bottle is drenched in opulence, making for a stunning addition to your ornamental arrangement.") The 5L bottle was £12,000, now a bargain at £9,599.

What I ought to have in my suitcase: a Verbena sachet from Castelbel. "With a high concentration of perfume, this fragrant sachet is manufactured with Portuguese cork and using a Castelbel exclusive technology that absorbs and releases the aroma in a slow and prolonged way. The satin ribbon is perfect to hang the sachet in the closet. However, it can also be used to fragrance suitcases, drawers or even your car." I can't seem to find them in the US, but they're €9 each on the Castelbel website.

Well well. From Mark Buxton, a Vetiver & Magnolia candle. The (unfortunately, not terribly helpful) description: "The Vetiver & Magnolia candle transports us through fruity notes that mingle with woody facets contrasted by a touch of vetiver." Still, it does appear to be vetiver and magnolia, so it would be worth a shot if you had money burning a hole in your pocket. 190g for €54 at Nose in France.
