Potter & Moore Orange Blossom and Amber Scented Candle ~ home fragrance review

Posted by Pia on 1 September 2007 4 Comments

Potter & Moore Orange Blossom and Amber fragrance candleThe Potter & Moore line of scented products is one of the more intriguing and fanciful lines I have come across recently. Knowing very little about them or their fragrances, I purchased their Orange Blossom and Amber Scented Candle as part my newfound fascination with all things orange blossom (about which more next month).

Founded in 1749, this beauty line was established by two gentlemen, John Potter and William Moore, who were 'physic gardeners' with a speciality in lavender cultivation. That alone might have been enough to tempt me…

L’Artisan Chez Moi ~ new home perfume diffuser

Posted by Robin on 18 August 2007 14 Comments

Next month, L'Artisan Parfumeur will introduce a new home perfume diffuser system, Chez Moi:

The new technique, a piezoelectric heat-free system, fragments the perfume molecules into microdroplets, and propels them in soft, sensual waves into the atmosphere of the room. […] Olfactory fidelity is total…

Ashleigh & Burwood Garden Incense Home Fragrance Review

Posted by Kevin on 29 July 2007 Leave a Comment

When Terre d’Oc stopped making its Japanese Garden Citrus and Citronella Garden Incense I was very upset. Terre d’Oc’s long-burning, 19-inch bâtons d’encens were perfect for outdoor parties. They produced a gentle citrus fragrance that didn’t interfere with the tastes of food and drink. I put the incense sticks directly into the ground in dark or shaded areas of the garden where their lazy silver smoke was easily seen. I often placed a burning incense stick under my umbrella-shaped Harlequin Glorybower tree next to a Chinese Buddha statue; hours would pass, the yard would smell great and Buddha would look as if he were sitting on a silver-blue cloud. In very un-Buddha-like fashion, I cursed Terre d’Oc for discontinuing their garden incense line.

Thankfully, I’ve found a replacement for the defunct Terre d’Oc garden incense: Ashleigh & Burwood’s Garden Incense sticks; these sticks are also huge (22 inches long) and meant for outdoor use…

Azur by The Thymes & Aqua by Antica Farmacista ~ home fragrance report

Posted by Pia on 22 July 2007 4 Comments

The Thymes Azur Room FragranceI love summer, with its early morning clear light that quickly turns hazy and warm. Golden hot sun bakes the patio and there is a constant buzz in the air from the bees making their rounds through vividly colored snapdragons, larkspur, day lilies and hollyhocks in the garden. The work pace slows down, water cooler breaks are more frequent, with perhaps even an afternoon espresso break allowed this time of year — a nod of thanks to our European friends across the pond.

Yes, summer is good. And for some of us, summer also brings back fond memories of the beach — gathering shells, dodging the waves, rolling in tired but happy at the end of a long day outdoors, with that slight salty pungent tang on our skin. And it seems that the home fragrance industry agrees. There are an abundance of products on the market designed to elicit sensations of turquoise water and palm fronds, dried up drift wood and tangy sea salt. Today I am going to review two home spray fragrances in this category: Azur by The Thymes, and Aqua by Antica Farmacista…

The Thymes Apricot Quince Dishwashing Liquid & All Purpose Cleaning Spray ~ home fragrance report

The Thymes Apricot Quince Dishwashing LiquidThe Thymes Apricot Quince Dishwashing LiquidThe Thymes Apricot Quince Dishwashing Liquid

I have been wanting to continue the spring cleaning theme from earlier — unfortunately, we have to clean in the summer too. The Thymes makes cleaning products (and more) in four scents, and I recently got the chance to try the Dishwashing Liquid and All Purpose Cleaning Spray in Apricot Quince (the other fragrances are Mandarin Coriander, Lavender Bergamot and Kumquat Lime). I was in a bit of a rush when I first opened the package and only had time for a quick sniff. My initial response was ‘yum’! I got a whiff of full-on fruity peachy sweet.

The Thymes website describes the scent as “succulent, tender and overflowing with the luscious orchard aroma of ripe apricots, juicy peaches and sweet cassis balanced with the pleasant tartness of quince…” When I returned to the products some days later, I had time to do a more considered test. I had a load of dishes to wash, and decided to do one half using the Thymes product, and the other half using a Palmolive orange scented dishwashing liquid…
