Biokleen Lemon Thyme Dishwash Liquid ~ scented cleaning products

Posted by Pia on 29 March 2009 6 Comments

Biokleen Lemon Thyme Dishwashing LiquidIf you are looking for a natural dishwashing liquid to brighten up your spring cleaning this year, Biokleen has a great non-toxic biodegradable dishwashing liquid in Lemon Thyme. I’ve been using it consistently for a couple of months now, and have been just as consistently pleased with its scent and cleaning ability. It contains plant surfactants and grapefruit seed extract for cleaning power, and aloe and vitamin E to moisturize the skin.

The fragrance is light and totally natural, stemming from a blend of lemon and thyme extract. It smells softly of lemon juice with a subtle backbone of herbaceous woodiness from the thyme, and fills the kitchen with a scent that is both soothing and refreshing once you get the soapy suds going in steaming hot water…

Sleep Scentsations Scented Pillow Liners ~ home fragrance

Posted by Jessica on 7 March 2009 29 Comments

Sleep Scentsations Scented pillow linersThe company Sleep Scentsations was started by two sisters who wanted to create an affordable, portable form of aromatherapy. Their first products are “scented pillow liners,” with a “scent menu” of six categories ranging from Fresh to Exotic to Botanical. The scents are designed to evoke pleasant memories and positive emotional responses in the user, in order to calm him or her for a good night's sleep.

The pillow liners are individually wrapped in foil packets labeled with their fragrances; each liner has an adhesive backing and can be pressed directly onto a pillow. The liner is thin, so you can't feel it through the pillowcase, but the fragrance filters nicely through the linens. This product strikes me as being very convenient for travel. I'd like to have one of these handy in a hotel room, for example, or even on an airplane. They don't create any mess, and unlike candles, they don't pose any risk (it's never a good idea to burn a candle while you're sleeping!). They're not meant to fragrance an entire room, of course; their scent remains in the area immediately surrounding the pillow, so that it's a more private experience…

Our smells are different

Posted by Robin on 15 January 2009 6 Comments

I hate candles that have the sort of perfume that you might wear on your body. Our smells are different - we re-create the smell of the Mirror Gallery and the polished wooden floor of Versailles (Roi Soleil); we conjure up the fragrance of old stone walls in the shade of cloisters and convents (Carmelite); of churches (Spiritus Sancti); of freshly washed linen and swilled-down tiled floors (Manon) and of leather and tobacco in an old hotel in Havana (Ernesto).

— Ramdane Touhami of Cire Trudon, quoted by columnist Lucia van der Post in Lucia loves: scented candles at the UK Times Online. See also: Kevin's review of the Cire Trudon Mademoiselle de La Vallière candle.
