The Monday Mail ~ help Nicola find a wedding perfume

Posted by Robin on 22 April 2013 29 Comments

Number 24

Today we’re helping Nicola, who will be getting married in January and wants to find a perfect fragrance so she’ll always have a scent memory associated with the day. Because the weather will be cold and the setting (see below) grand, she’d like something rich and romantic, but she’d like to avoid the sorts of typical gourmands (no stewed fruits or chocolate notes, please) that might immediately spring to mind. Her budget is flexible but may not extend into the Amouage range. Here is what we know about Nicola:

She’s in her late 20s, and is a Ph.D. student at Durham University in the UK, researching Old Norse translations of medieval female saints’ lives.

She loves reading, opera, walks in the local countryside and travel to cities with beautiful architecture.

Because of her studies she speaks and reads several languages, including Icelandic and Latin, and she loves learning more — Welsh is next on her list.

She says her style is tailored and luxurious with an eclectic twist; she loves a cashmere sweater with a pencil skirt and tall hunting boots, matched with a Swedish army coat or a bunch of antique rings.

Her wedding will be in a small church in Durham, followed by a reception and ceilidh in the Great Hall of Durham Castle…

The Monday Mail ~ help Ines find a new perfume

Posted by Robin on 10 May 2010 44 Comments

Letter Box, Luxembourg

Today we’re helping Ines, who is getting married in London at the end of May. She’d love to find a new perfume that would “make her day eternal” and that she could happily go on wearing after the wedding. She’s willing to pay premium if she can find the right scent — and the right scent should be subtle and elegant, but still make a statement. Here is what we know about Ines:

She’s in her late 20s, and her area of expertise is business development, marketing and sales.

She loves to write and she keeps several blogs. She’s also a big fitness fan, and she likes to try new things.

She recently moved from Madrid to London. She loves languages and speaks five at the moment.

She says she is a reasonable and considerate person, but also makes swift decisions, and isn’t always good at establishing interpersonal limits.

She loves meeting new people and is sociable most of the time, but she also likes to be on her own.

Ines’ first perfume was Anaïs Anaïs at age 6…

The Monday Mail ~ help Denise find a wedding perfume

Posted by Robin on 22 February 2010 76 Comments

Denise, who says she is an “amateur perfumista at best”, is getting married in early May:

It will be a late afternoon Catholic mass in a beautiful chapel, followed by a reception at an inn built in the 1700s. So, it will be traditional but not super formal, with whimsical touches.

She wants to find something that will make her feel classic and elegant. It should be substantial but not overwhelming, and although she has a number of perfumes in her current rotation, she wants something new and special for her wedding. She can pay up to $200, and she lives in New York City so has excellent access to perfume stores. Here is what we know about Denise:

She’s in her late 20s, and doesn’t like to go to bed on time…

The Monday Mail ~ help May find a perfect wedding perfume

got-mail

May (who comments here as perfumegeek) is getting married in April. It will be an intimate morning ceremony on the beach (you can see her wedding dress after the jump) in Florida. She’s thinking the temperature will probably be in the low 60s. She wants a perfect perfume — something she loves and will have as a keepsake — and is willing to pay up to $200 to get it.

Here is what we know about May:

She’s a chemist (the kind that plays with lasers, strong magnets and colorful compounds) in her 20s.

She’s a bookworm (she loves Jhumpa Lahiri and Neil Gaiman among others), a music lover (Chopin, Debussy, The Shins, Brandi Carlile), a museum freak (The Victoria and Albert in London, Georgia O’Keefe in Santa Fe), and an outdoorsy woodsy girl (hiking, snowshoeing, fishing)…

Lazy Friday poll ~ wedding perfumes

Posted by Robin on 9 October 2009 290 Comments

lavender-wedding

Several people have requested a wedding perfume poll, so here it is. Say whatever you want about wedding perfumes: what you wore to your own wedding, what you wished you'd worn, what you'd wear if you ever had a wedding, the worst perfume you ever smelled at a wedding.
