Happy Thanksgiving 2023 ~ open thread

Posted by Robin on 23 November 2023 186 Comments

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who is celebrating today!

Whether you’re celebrating or not, feel free to talk about anything you like: what fragrance you’re wearing today, what perfume you’re especially thankful for, what you’re going to cook or eat today…whatever you like, so long as it doesn’t conflict with our comment policy…

Wednesday scent of the day 11/22

Posted by Robin on 22 November 2023 283 Comments

It’s Hump Day and National Cranberry Relish Day. (Plus, Thanksgiving Eve aka Drinksgiving / Blackout Wednesday — be careful out there!) Birthdays: Abigail Adams, André Gide, Hoagy Carmichael and Billie Jean King. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m doing pre-Thanksgiving chores in an old-but-not-quite-forgotten friend, Comme des Garçons Kyoto, and sending gratitude to the very kind reader who sent me some. (And I’m taking community project points since I’ve been waiting for eons for Comme des Garçons to do travel sizes.)

Reminder: on 11/24, pick your Black Friday poison…

Tuesday scent of the day 11/21

It’s Tuesday, plus World Hello Day and World Television Day. Birthdays: Voltaire, René Magritte, Coleman Hawkins, Elizabeth George Speare, Marilyn French. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m trying the very summery L’Artisan Parfumeur Vétiver Écarlate. Tea at the moment is the wintery Christmas Tea from Upton, mixed with some random Assam.

Reminder: on 11/24, pick your Black Friday poison…

Monday scent of the day 11/20

It’s Monday and World Children’s Day. RIP Rosalynn Carter. What fragrance are you wearing?

I had a busy Sunday and am behind on the weekend comments…I will try to catch up by tonight! Meanwhile, I’m looking at a busy morning and probably won’t manage fragrance until the afternoon so I’ll check in then.

Reminder: on 11/24, pick your Black Friday poison…

Friday scent of the day 11/17

Posted by Robin on 17 November 2023 210 Comments

Happy Gratitude Friday! Our community project for today: wear a perfume that you feel grateful for coming into your life, that arrived at the right time, helped you face a difficult situation, or simply enriches your day when you wear it. Gratitude to Kanuka for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

It is true that if I had to escape and could only grab one perfume, it’d be Diorissimo, but if it was only one brand, it would surely be Hermès. Props to Hermès for (a) hiring perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, whose work I was already following avidly when he was made house perfumer back in 2004, and (b) putting out all his work in (cute!) 15 ml bottles at a not-insane price. This morning I am grateful for Eau de Néroli Doré, which makes me smile every time I wear it, and is just right for the high of 65 we’re expecting here today…
