Tuesday scent of the day 1/23

Posted by Robin on 23 January 2024 192 Comments

It’s Tuesday! It’s still January! There are 56 days left of winter! Also, National Pie Day. Birthdays: Stendhal, Édouard Manet, Derek Walcott (Walcott was born in Saint Lucia, and was the the second Caribbean writer to receive the Nobel prize for literature).* What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m in Dries Van Noten par Frédéric Malle, which in no way reminds me of the Carribbean but which does have nutmeg…still grown on Grenada, aka Spice Island. My matching tea is a blend of Upton Idulgashinna Estate Organic and Art of Tea Tali’s Masala Chai with an extra sprinkle of grated nutmeg.

Reminder: on 1/26, we’re off to The Caribbean…

Welcome to a January Monday. It’s also National Hot Sauce Day. Birthdays: John Donne, Lord Byron, August Strindberg, Beatrice Webb, George Balanchine, Sam Cooke. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m in Chanel Bois des Iles, and taking a partial point for the island theme.

Reminder: on 1/26, we’re off to The Caribbean…

Friday scent of the day 1/19

Posted by Robin on 19 January 2024 198 Comments

Happy Friday and happy 78th to Dolly Parton! (More birthdays: Edgar Allan Poe, Paul Cézanne, Patricia Highsmith, Julian Barnes, Janis Joplin, Edwidge Danticat.) Our community project for today: our theme is Dolly Parton, do what you like with it!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

Kris pointed out yesterday that there is a hybrid rose named after Dolly Parton, plus she likes (yellow) roses. I’m in The Perfumer’s Workshop Tea Rose, the rose in my collection that seemed like the best fit…

Thursday scent of the day 1/18

Happy Almost-Friday! It’s also National Thesaurus Day, aka Peter Mark Roget’s birthday. More birthdays: AA Milne, Cary Grant, Philippe Starck. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m in Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze. I’m sure it has some relationship to something about Dolly Parton and I’ll think of what it is by the end of the day, hopefully.

Reminder: 1/19 is Dolly Parton’s birthday…

Wednesday scent of the day 1/17

Posted by Robin on 17 January 2024 178 Comments

Happy Hump Day! Birthdays: Benjamin Franklin, Anne Brontë, Betty White, Eartha Kitt. What fragrance are you wearing?

For my favorite Dolly Parton song, a version of the traditional ballad Silver Dagger, released on the 1999 folk / bluegrass album The Grass is Blue, I’d be wearing Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist if I still had any. In its place I’m wearing Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue, which isn’t quite right but will have to do. (You can listen to the song here.)

Reminder: 1/19 is Dolly Parton’s birthday…
