Friday scent of the day 11/14

Posted by Robin on 14 November 2025 206 Comments

It’s Friday, plus National Pickle Day and World Diabetes Day. Our community project for today: for Claude Monet’s birthday, wear a fragrance that reflects the spirit of Impressionism (Wikipedia: “characterized by visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities (often accentuating the effects of the passage of time), ordinary subject matter, unusual visual angles, and inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience”) or scent a favorite Impressionist painting, or do something else creative with the theme.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m jumping on the iris train, in Honoré des Prés I Love Les Carottes.

Reminder: on 11/21, wear a favorite vintage fragrance…

Thursday scent of the day 11/13

Happy Almost-Friday and happy World Kindness Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

For all the haystacks (I considered a few by Victor Vignon as well), I’m wearing my favorite hay, Hermès Brin de Réglisse.

Reminder: on 11/14, for Claude Monet’s birthday, wear a fragrance that reflects the spirit of Impressionism…

Wednesday scent of the day 11/12

It’s Hump Day and World Pneumonia Day. Happy 80th to Neil Young! Other birthdays: Grace Kelly, Booker T Jones. What fragrance are you wearing?

On Mary Cassatt’s The Boating Party, which I used to go visit regularly at The National Gallery of Art when I lived in Washington DC, Wikipedia says…

The vibrancy of the woman and child, as well as the boat and sea, are indicative of this Impressionist emphasis on bright colors based on plein air observation. The cropped view of the boat and the asymmetrical composition also suggest the influence of Ukiyo-e prints, which interested Cassatt. In 1890, Cassatt had visited the great Japanese Print exhibition at the École de Beaux-arts in Paris.

So to tie together the south of France (Cassatt painted The Boating Party while living in Cap d’Antibes) and Japan, I’m in Diptyque Kimonanthe.

Reminder: on 11/14, for Claude Monet’s birthday, wear a fragrance that reflects the spirit of Impressionism…

Tuesday scent of the day 11/11

It’s Tuesday and Veterans Day. (Plus, a handful of literary birthdays: Carlos Fuentes, Kurt Vonnegut, Shirley Graham Du Bois, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Mary Gaitskill.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m linking the water lily pond Monet created at Giverny with the “water feature” in Hermès Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. Tea at the moment is Jasmine Pearl Tea Co Bombay Breakfast.

Reminder: on 11/14, for Claude Monet’s birthday, wear a fragrance that reflects the spirit of Impressionism…

Friday scent of the day 11/7

Posted by Robin on 7 November 2025 177 Comments

It’s Friday and National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day. Birthdays: Ruby Hurley, Albert Camus, Al Hirt, Joni Mitchell. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with vetiver, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2017.)

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m smelling delicious in Hermès Vetiver Tonka. I might wear this all weekend…
