Thursday scent of the day 8/6

Posted by Robin on 6 August 2020 224 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy Root Beer Float Day! Today is also the 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. Birthdays today: Andy Warhol, M. Night Shyamalan, Lucille Ball, Alfred, Lord Tennyson. What fragrance are you wearing?

My song today is Dolly Parton doing the American folk ballad Silver Dagger. (Many artists have covered this song; here’s a link to a Joan Baez version.) My (lame, metal weapon related) pairing is with DS & Durga HYLNDS Bitter Rose, Broken Spear, which turns out to be perfect for this rainy morning.

Reminder: 8/7 we’re doing Playlist Friday, again…)

Wednesday scent of the day 8/5

Hump Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

My vote for the most cheerful song about Covid-19: Mavis Staples with Jeff Tweedy, All In It Together. (You can listen below. If you buy the song, the proceeds go to My Block My Hood My City, a Chicago based non-profit helping seniors get access to the essentials needed to fight COVID-19.) I am pairing it with the likewise cheerful Osmanthus from Ormonde Jayne.

Tuesday scent of the day 8/4

Posted by Robin on 4 August 2020 187 Comments

It’s Tuesday and Coast Guard Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

My music: For a rainy day, an abrupt-genre-shift medley… Elvis Presley’s Kentucky Rain, followed by Louis Armstrong (it’s his birthday today!) doing the gospel song Didn’t It Rain, and then The Temptations with I Wish It Would Rain. My scent: Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile, in the original (but now discontinued) Eau de Toilette. My tea: Harney CTC Assam with a bit of cardamom.

Reminder: 8/7 we’re doing Playlist Friday, again…

Monday scent of the day 8/3

It’s Monday and Watermelon Day. A very happy 94th birthday to Tony Bennett! What fragrance are you wearing?

Probably my favorite Tony Bennett song is a version of Days of Wine and Roses, from the album he made with jazz pianist Bill Evans. That’s a 1962 Mancini / Mercer song for a movie I never saw (and I don’t know who sang it for the movie), and it’s admittedly too sappy to match a perfume to this morning, but I’ve included it below anyway, and since it would go nicely with one of the classic Guerlains, I’ve just updated the feeling a bit with Cologne du 68.

Friday scent of the day 7/31

Posted by Robin on 31 July 2020 352 Comments

Lo and behold, Friday. (Also, World Ranger Day.) Our community project for today is best of summer…wear the perfume you’re reaching for the most this summer. (If it’s winter where you are, wear the perfume you’re reaching for the most this winter.)

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I have two oldie but goodie favorites this summer. One is Carthusia Mediterraneo, which I tend to spray on in the late afternoon, and which tends to disappear by dinner. Then, at bed time, my trusty stress reliever, Aftelier Ancient Resins…
