Tuesday scent of the day 10/19

Posted by Robin on 19 October 2021 221 Comments

It’s Tuesday and International Gin & Tonic Day. The splitmeet will start this coming Saturday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m in Aftelier Candide for Pantone 13-0647 TCX Illuminating (I could not find a teacup in Illuminating, but you can find cortado cups and mugs.) Tea at the moment is Numi Chinese Breakfast with a dash of cinnamon.

Reminder: on 10/22, wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone’s picks for the Autumn/Winter 2021/2022 NYFW Color Palette…

Monday scent of the day 10/18

Posted by Robin on 18 October 2021 212 Comments

Welcome to another Monday. It’s also Chocolate Cupcake Day, if that helps to ease the pain. Happy 60th to Wynton Marsalis! RIP Tom Morey, and thank you for the Boogie Board. (Update: and RIP Colin Powell, who died today of COVID complications. He was 84.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m commando for a bunch of errands including a doctor visit, but when I get home this afternoon, I’ll be in Prada Candy for Pantone 19-1228 TPX Root Beer (“An herbal brown tone symbolic of the root bark of the sassafras tree”).

Reminder: on 10/22, wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone’s picks for the Autumn/Winter 2021/2022 NYFW Color Palette…..

Friday scent of the day 10/15

Posted by Robin on 15 October 2021 301 Comments

Happy Friday and happy Global Handwashing Day! It’s also Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse‘s birthday. Our community project for today: wear a perfume for Jeeves OR Wooster. If you have never seen or read anything about Jeeves and Wooster, pick a favorite comic character from any medium, and scent that character.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m in Astier de Villatte Commune de Paris 1871, which doesn’t really address the cp proper — I’m not assigning it to Jeeves or Wooster in particular — but if you ignore the name, it’s a decent way to conjure up the series as a whole, maybe even the entire Wodehouse universe, covering what Kevin called…

…a lovely scented mix of country-walk (lemon and bergamot leading to lavender-coumarin-moss) and cozy parlor — a smooth benzoin-patchouli accord combining with scents I’ll describe as “candy dish” and powder puff…

Thursday scent of the day 10/14

Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Dessert Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m in vintage Miss Dior for Bertie’s Aunt Dahlia. (She was played by several actresses over the course of the television series. None of them looked quite like my image of Aunt Dahlia, but Brenda Bruce was closest.)

Reminder: 10/15 is Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse‘s birthday…

Wednesday scent of the day 10/13

Posted by Robin on 13 October 2021 245 Comments

It’s Hump Day and the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, and Paul Simon is 80 years old. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m in Vilhelm Parfumerie Purple Fig. If Wooster had bought Purple Fig (although likely, what he’d have bought today would be something like Paco Rabanne 1 Million or Dior Sauvage) Jeeves would concoct a scheme to make him give it up for something more dignified.

Reminder: 10/15 is Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse‘s birthday…
