Now your nose can tell you when you are being talked about on social networks thanks to a net-connected robot.

Called Olly, the robot watches the millions of messages passing through social networks and spots when its owner is mentioned.

For every mention or referral Olly emits a waft of scent as a "reward" for the online interaction.

Crisp apple smell

THAT crisp apple colour and that crisp apple smell could one day come out of the same ink-jet printer, if an idea hatched in a Japanese lab takes off. Using technology from existing ink-jet printers, the idea is to generate evocative aromas to complement images on your computer or TV, from the scent of a mown lawn in a family photo to truffles in a cookery show.

Briny scent of the seaside

The researchers said it would release a candy floss smell when the image shows a fairground and can even emit the briny scent of the seaside when people look at their holiday photos.
