Boxwalla Beauty Box ~ scented body product reviews

Posted by Jessica on 31 December 2015 19 Comments

Boxwalla Beauty Box

If you’re as interested in cosmetics as you are in fragrance, you’ve no doubt become aware of the “subscription box” craze of the past five years or so. It usually works like this: you subscribe by filling out a questionnaire about your tastes, and for a monthly fee you’re sent a box of trial-sized products purportedly chosen to fit your profile. Everyone loves getting surprises in the mail, right? I’ve joined two or three of these subscription brands in the past, and for a while I enjoyed receiving my packages; as the months ticked by, however, I ended up owning too many items that I just never used (bright coral lipsticks! sparkly highlighting powders!) so I unsubscribed.

More recently, variations on the subscription theme have emerged — several fragrance clubs, for example, and now Boxwalla, a service that “curates” boxes in four categories: Beauty, Food, Film and Books. The Beauty box promises to offer “luxurious and effective products to nourish your skin and body,” all made in the United States with non-toxic and cruelty-free ingredients. I’ve just tried Boxwalla’s December Beauty box, which seemed to have a “winter comfort” motif, and — unlike some of the cosmetics subscription services I’ve tried —it was an all-around success for me…

REN Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil & Lush Rosy Cheeks Fresh Face Mask ~ scented body product reviews

Posted by Jessica on 3 September 2015 9 Comments

It’s that time of year when I can no longer deny the discomfort of late-summer heat and humidity, and my wardrobe is temporarily pared down to my very lightest dresses and a pair of sandals. Similarly, I can only tolerate my freshest and lightest fragrance standbys, like Diptyque L’Ombre dans L’Eau, Clarins Eau des Jardins and Lostmarc’h Iroaz. If the weather is truly oppressive, I may even just reach for a scented body product and skip perfume altogether.

Fragranced body oils always feel luxurious, and REN’s Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil satisfies my need to wear something scented, even on the sultriest days….

Aftelier Organic Ylang Face Elixir ~ scented body product review

Aftelier Organic Ylang Face Elixir

The weather has suddenly turned cool and windy here in the northeast, so it’s the perfect time for me to upgrade my skincare for extra moisture and protection — and if I can work a good-smelling product or two into my regimen, then all the better! Natural perfumer Mandy Aftel of Aftelier has just released a new Organic Ylang Face Elixir, which I’ve been sampling this week. It contains organic ylang ylang, a creamy floral blended with bright pink grapefruit and blood orange, both known for their toning and softening properties, in a base of seven organic oils (rice bran, sweet almond, apricot kernel, camellia, grapeseed, squalene and rose hip seed).

When I first became seriously interested in fragrance, and I was smelling as many perfumes as I could in order to define what I liked, I realized that ylang ylang was (and is) one of my favorite floral notes…
