Gulsha Skincare & Aroma M Camellia Prickly Pear Face Oil ~ scented body product reviews

Gülsha skincare

People tend to have strong feelings about fragrance in their skincare. Some prefer everything unscented; others don’t mind a light scent here or there, providing it doesn’t linger. Personally, I’m happiest when an effective and gentle skincare product also smells good to me. No matter how well a product works, if I dislike the scent, I can’t use it; but if my skin and my nose happen to agree, then I’m delighted.

Since I already love wearing rose perfumes, I’m partial to rose-scented body products and skincare. I’m currently fascinated by Gülsha, a skincare collection made by a Turkey-based family business that has produced raw materials like rose absolute and rose water for the fragrance industry since 1965….

Sephora Collection Micellar Cleansing Water & Milk in Rose, Coconut Water and Green Tea ~ scented body product review

Sephora Micellar Cleansing Waters and Cleansing Milks

The more obsessed you become with scent, the further you may venture in your quest for a fragranced life: beyond perfume and fancy candles, for example, you might become very particular about the fragrances of bath and body items or household products. (Hence my long and happy relationships with Lush and Mrs. Meyers, to name just two of my brand obsessions.) But why stop there? What about skincare? If I’m going to put something on my face, of all places, either it has to be unscented or have a scent that I truly enjoy.

On a recent browse through Sephora, I stopped to examine a new collection of skincare products from the beauty mega-giant’s signature line. There were brightly packaged lip balms, sheet masks, facial wipes and — most interesting to me, personally — four new micellar cleansing waters. About two years ago I stopped cleaning my face with soap-based cleansers…

Santa Maria Novella Acqua di Fior d'Arancio

I could do a month of lemmings from Santa Maria Novella, but here's just one for our Enchanted April Friday: Acqua di Fior d'Arancio / Orange Blossom Water. "Orange blossoms from the sun-soaked orchards of Sicily make this invigorating water a treatment for purifying and toning the skin. The Dominican Friars used this water centuries ago to obtain relief from the common cold by soaking a clean wash cloth and placing on chest or nose. Today, add a splash to your bath to soothe tired muscles or apply a touch to your body or to linens as a refreshing fragrance." Available in 250 ($35) and 500 ($60) ml.

I am too lazy for more than a very minimal skin routine, but sheet mask enthusiasts might be interested in Origin's new Flower Fusion range: "Inspired by the naturally radiant beauty of florals, Origins new Flower Fusion™ Sheet Masks provide an instant boost of rose-like radiance and dewy moisture. Crafted with natural Bamboo and formulated with pure flower extracts, each of their six single use sheet masks provides a unique essential oil blend to deliver specific skin benefits." They haven't launched in the US yet (the Origins site says "coming soon"), but you can find them in the UK at Look Fantastic, $6.40 each (and free delivery over $15), available in Jasmine, Violet, Orange, Rose, Lavender and Raspberry.
