Jurlique Shower Gel and Body Care Lotion ~ scented body products

Posted by Jessica on 23 March 2008 5 Comments

Jurlique Citrus Body LotionJurlique’s Lavender Hand Cream was one of the first products I ever owned that incorporated natural ingredients into a luxury treatment, and I used it down to the very last bit in the tube. That was a while ago, but when I recently noticed that Jurlique had updated its packaging and added new products, I thought I’d revisit the line. I spent some time browsing the company’s revamped website, which offers information about Jurlique’s organic farms, its use of botanical essences, and its emphasis on “sustainable connections,” before I tried its shower gels and lotions. I haven’t explored the other redesigned product groups yet, but these body products weren’t quite what I expected.

The shower gel, for example, includes several chemical detergents and other not-so-natural ingredients; this surprised me, since Jurlique stresses its commitment to healthy beauty. (Yes, the plant extracts are in there too, but they’re listed after the detergents and surfactants.) In the shower, the gel did feel foamy and gentle enough, but the fragrances left something to be desired…

More ideas for fragrance layering ~ Space NK “Soulful” Bathtime Minis

Posted by Jessica on 8 March 2008 11 Comments

I’ve come to think of Space NK as a “post-Sephora” shopping experience. At first, Sephora was exciting: the aisles and aisles of fragrance and beauty products, often accompanied by a pulsing dance-music soundtrack, induced a feverish high of trying and buying. After a while, however, too much choice can feel exhausting, particularly when so many products start to seem alike. Nowadays, Sephora gives me the feeling of a crowded party, while a visit to Space NK is more like brunch with one or two friends. It’s selective and it’s simplified, and I can trust its suggestions.

In keeping with its streamlined, user-friendly style, Space NK offers its own line of fragranced products, which are sold both as individual items and as sets. I sniffed a few scents before making my choice…

Clarins “Relax” Bath & Shower Concentrate and Body Balm ~ scented body products

Posted by Jessica on 30 December 2007 8 Comments

Clarins Relax seriesIn the calm after the holiday storm of shopping, socializing, travel, and various overindulgences, a few of us might be looking for simple means of relaxation. This is an ideal time to try the “Relax” products from Clarins, which happens to produce some very fine aromatherapy products alongside its skincare and makeup lines.

The “Relax” Bath & Shower Concentrate, which I’ve been using as a shower gel, is a low-lathering liquid fragranced with essential oils of geranium, basil and petitgrain. The accompanying Body Balm is a creamy lotion, just thick enough to feel indulgent but light enough to be easily absorbed into the skin; its aromatherapeutic essences are the same as those of the Bath & Shower Concentrate, with an additional note of chamomile.

The “Relax” scent is designed to enhance a sense of tranquility…

I’ll take one: the Prada Infusion d’Iris coffret, with 100 ml of the Eau de Parfum and a scented candle on a metal base. It is hard to make out in the picture, but the candle is etched with the Prada logo. $150 at Neiman Marcus…

Annick Goutal Les Orientalistes

If Santa is bringing me my heart’s desire, this is it: the Annick Goutal Les Orientalistes coffret. Ambre Fétiche, Myrrhe Ardente and Encens Flamboyant, each in 50 ml, in a white leather box. €500. I haven’t smelled them yet, but at the moment, that just adds to their charm. No idea where you can buy it, but the elves will figure it out…
