Desperate Housewives Forbidden Fruit, The Thymes Kimono Rose & Chopard Pour Homme ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 19 May 2006 6 Comments

Desperate Housewives Forbidden Fruit fragranceForbidden Fruit, the debut fragrance from the television series Desperate Housewives, will be released as a Macy's exclusive this September:

Forbidden Fruit, concocted by Firmenich, is a fruity floriental. Top notes are of crisp Rome apples, orange flowers and ripe, juicy peaches, with a heart of wisteria (naturally, given the fact that the characters live on Wisteria Lane), jasmine, ylang-ylang and passion lily. The drydown is of cedarwood, sandalwood, vanilla and tonka bean.

Update: see a review of Desperate Housewives Forbidden Fruit.

The Thymes has launched Kimono Rose…

Perfume review: Shiseido Rose Rouge

Posted by Marlen on 30 March 2006 7 Comments

Shiseido Rose Rouge fragrance

Shiseido’s newest creation, by perfumer Nathalie Lorson, is their first major fragrance launch for women since Vocalise in 1997 and the recent re-release of Zen in 2000. Of course it remains to be seen if this scent will cross the great divide and land at a fragrance counter near you. A fruity floral perfume focusing on Bulgarian rose, other notes include red peony, blackberry, raspberry, Morrocan rose, iris, heliotrope, velvet musk and sandalwood. I’ve heard rumors that there is also a note of cacao, but have yet to find it listed anywhere.

Rose fanatics, listen up: this is nothing new…

Fragrance review: Diptyque L’Ombre dans L’Eau

Posted by Robin on 15 March 2006 31 Comments

Diptyque L'Ombre dans L'Eau perfume

L’Ombre dans L’Eau was launched by Diptyque in 1983. The notes are listed as black currant leaf and Bulgarian rose; Diptyque describes the fragrance as “the scent of a green riverside garden.” It was created by Serge Kalouguine, who was also the perfumer for Diptyque Olène.

L’Ombre dans L’Eau, like yesterday’s Ecume de Rose, gets off to a somewhat rocky start, with an overwhelming burst of green (and I love green notes, mind you). It is harsh, maybe even astringent. The green remains — if you don’t like green, there is little point in even trying it — but it does calm. There are crushed green leaves. There is the bitter smell of broken stems. There is a light sprinkling of fresh herbs, and one or two pine needles. There is the smell of freshly overturned soil warming in the sun, and a bit of tartness from the black currant…

Parfums de Rosine Ecume de Rose perfume review

Posted by Robin on 14 March 2006 29 Comments

Ecume de Rose by Les Parfums de Rosine

Ecume de Rose was launched by Les Parfums de Rosine in 2003. The notes are blackcurrant leaves, waterlilies, dune roses, attar of rose, strawflowers, St. John’s wort, vetiver, amber and white musk.

I love rose perfumes — who doesn’t like the smell of roses? — but they are easily the most ignored fragrances in my collection. I love them, but I don’t wear them…

10 Corso Como fragrance review

Posted by Robin on 8 March 2006 43 Comments

10 Corso Como fragrance

10 Corso Como is the fashionable Milan boutique of “style guru” Carla Sozzani. Since opening in 1991, the business has expanded to include a design gallery, bookstore, restaurant, and even a small B & B called 3Rooms. The eponymous fragrance was created by perfumer Olivier Gillotin and launched in 1999, and features notes of rose, geranium, vetiver, musk, sandalwood and Malay oud-wood oil.

The 10 Corso Como fragrance opens on a sour-sweet medicinal haze that has been compared to gasoline; the rose and geranium slowly emerge as recognizeable elements as the oudh calms…
