Mark Rebel Rose perfumeAvon's Mark brand has launched Rebel Rose, a "defiantly different" new perfume for women. The tag line: "Rebel from the start...femme to the end".

Rock your love of everything chic, edge and gorgeous with this revved-up rose fragrance. rose absolute spiked with pink pepper embraces your wild side while sheer pink musk and a hing [sic] of vanilla play up what's pretty.

Mark Rebel Rose is available in 50 ml Fragrance Mist, $18. (via shop.meetmark)

The Body Shop will launch Moroccan Rose (aka Rose du Maroc, shown at left) in February for St. Valentine's Day. In addition to the rose, the fragrance features lemon, spices, vanilla and musk. In Eau de Toilette, and I'll add the sizes when I can find them. (via cosmetiquemag.fr)

Mariage Freres Rose d’Himalaya candle ~ home fragrance review

My memories of India are of mornings filled with mystery and anticipation. The haunting sound of the first call to prayer from the muezzin swirling in through an open window with the pre-dawn mist, waking the peacocks who add their plaintive cry. Chants from the Sikh gurdwara follow soon, as do tendrils of rosy sweet dhoop (incense) that meld with the dung-fire smoke from the villages, as early morning puja begins. By the time morning has settled in, the mists have burned away, and the koyal birds have begun their sweet song that will continue through the rest of a day bursting with sunshine, as the green parrots in the trees resume their daily gossip and the vendors begin to make their rounds, crying out their offerings of fresh orange juice, vegetables and shoe repair. Cows come grazing along the street, sometimes stopping to inquire mildly into the goings-on of the households they pass…

Amouage Lyric Woman

Sometimes it's tempting to compare perfume to music. For instance, Chanel No. 22 smells like singing aldehydes and white flowers with a whispering contralto of sandalwood, vetiver, and incense. Guerlain L'Heure Bleue smells melodic and moody like a Fauré tone poem. Balenciaga named a whole series of its perfumes after forms of music and rhythm: Prélude, Quadrille, and Rumba. And let's not even get started on Valentino Rock 'n Rose. Amouage counted on the natural sympathy between scent and music when it named its latest fragrance “Lyric”.

Amouage describes Lyric Woman (there's also a Lyric Man) as a fragrance in a “lyric-spinto” voice. A lyric-spinto soprano sings with the lightness of a lyric soprano, but with a slightly darker timbre…
