Avon's Mark brand has launched Rebel Rose, a "defiantly different" new perfume for women. The tag line: "Rebel from the start...femme to the end".

The Body Shop will launch Moroccan Rose (aka Rose du Maroc, shown at left) in February for St. Valentine's Day. In addition to the rose, the fragrance features lemon, spices, vanilla and musk. In Eau de Toilette, and I'll add the sizes when I can find them. (via cosmetiquemag.fr)

My memories of India are of mornings filled with mystery and anticipation. The haunting sound of the first call to prayer from the muezzin swirling in through an open window with the pre-dawn mist, waking the peacocks who add their plaintive cry. Chants from the Sikh gurdwara follow soon, as do tendrils of rosy sweet dhoop (incense) that meld with the dung-fire smoke from the villages, as early morning puja begins. Sometimes it's tempting to compare perfume to music. For instance, Chanel No. 22 smells like singing aldehydes and white flowers with a whispering contralto of sandalwood, vetiver, and incense. Guerlain L'Heure Bleue smells melodic and moody like a Fauré tone poem. Balenciaga named a whole series of its perfumes after forms of music and rhythm: Prélude, Quadrille, and Rumba.
