MCMC Zodiac Mist in Cancer ~ fragrance & home fragrance review

Posted by Jessica on 9 February 2023 14 Comments

I mentioned last year in a review of Eris Parfums’ Scorpio Rising that I’ve always been curious about the zodiac, so I’m ready to explore an astrology-fragrance connection now and then. Also last year, the Brooklyn-based indie perfume brand MCMC Fragrances (a longtime favorite of mine) released a collection of “all-natural home and body mists” designed to complement the characters of the zodiac. Okay, I thought, sign (ha!) me up.

As you may not be surprised to learn if we’ve been online buddies for a while, I’m a June baby (rose is “my” flower) and a Cancer (“the crab”), which translates into being emotionally sensitive and most comfortable in home-like spaces. The latest linen spray from Frédéric Malle: "Following Dans Mon Lit, the first eau de lit for linens, radiating the refined and voluptuous charm of rose, Frédéric Malle brings us Dans Ton Lit, based around the enchanting, clean, sensual fragrance of orange blossom. For this composition Dominique Ropion set out from an enormous quantity of natural raw material, to which he added petigrain, lemon and bergamot, along with a dose of white musk to reinforce the magnetism of the orange blossom. A few sprays on the sheets and pillows, and Dans Ton Lit leads us delicately into the gentlest dreams or caresses…" £85 for 100 ml at Harvey Nichols. (Meanwhile, you can pick up Bruno Jovanovic's Dans Mon Lit at Nordstrom for $135.)

The room spray I should have thought to buy weeks ago: "Scent your home with Czech & Speake's luxurious signature Frankincense & Myrrh scent. An exotic blend of spicy frankincense and earthy myrrh, with layers of rich cedarwood and sandalwood, fresh basil and pimento leaf topped with citrus notes of orange and lemon." $55.00 for 100 ml at Aedes.

The perfect lemming for Book Lovers Day, courtesy of Oakland Fresca: the Scents Gift Box from The London Review of Books. "Beethoven beguiles the ear, Ingres the eye and Ferran Adrià the tongue, but of all the senses scent is perhaps the most neglected. Here’s our personal selection of books to make you smell wonderful." With Perfume by Patrick Suskind, The Secret of Scent by Luca Turin and The Emperor of Scent by Chandler Burr, plus a Made by Coopers Happy Room Spray in 100 ml (with lime, clementine and basil). £45 at the LRB Bookshop.

From (Annick) Goutal, Une Maison de Campagne room spray: "...whisks you away to a bucolic garden where wildflowers bloom among blackcurrant bushes and brambles laden with blackberries. A fragrant art of living that gives your home a new story to tell." Shown in the 100 ml room spray (€49), also available in a candle.
