The daily lemming

The Salta candle from Cire Trudon is firmly in my top 5 all time home fragrances (thank you, Kevin) and I would love to have a bottle of the home spray, even though like Kevin, I can't say as I notice any hyacinth in particular. ("Considered by the Chinese as one of the three holy fruits with peach and lemon, the grapefruit was a symbol of prosperity and fertility. Also highly prized by the Greeks and the Romans, the hesperide has a crisp freshness: known for its rich terroir and unique soil, the Salta region enhances the citrus’ intensity. Blended with verbena and hyacinth, the grapefruit fragrance is aromatic." $260 (ouch!) for 375 ml at Trudon.

Trudon has a new oud and peony home fragrance collection, Altaïr, but what caught my eye was a recent collaboration with the luxury hotel Le Bristol Paris: "On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Le Bristol Paris, Maison Trudon has developed an exclusive fragrance: Honoré. The Honoré fragrance pays homage to the patron saint of bakers and pastry chefs, as well as the iconic address of the hotel, located on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Created as a bespoke composition by perfumer Sidonie Lancesseur, the fragrance draws inspiration from the emblematic flour mill installed in the basement of Le Bristol Paris. It also evokes the aura of the establishment, a true temple of French and Parisian gastronomy." With notes of yeast, wheat, cedar, hay and vetiver, available in 270g ($145) and 2.8kg candles and in a 375 ml room spray ($280).

From Lush, Goodnight Sweetheart Pillow Spray: "A delicately floral and slightly sweet pillow spray, perfect for adding a touch of romance to your evening. Lay your head on a pillow of delicate jasmine and floral rose absolute, then drift off to the land of nod." $24 for 15 ml at Lush USA.

From Barr Co, Fir & Grapefruit Room Spray: "Juicy grapefruit zest and the clean fresh woodsy notes of fir oils create an intense rush of invigorating, yet comforting notes. Made with plant extracts and soothing botanicals." $20 for 236 ml at CO Bigelow.

Somewhere in the middle sits the room spray

In case you missed it, air fresheners—and the entire category of home fragrances, for that matter—have undergone a major rebrand. Gone are the days of a quick Febreze spritz before a dinner party, and the luxury candle’s time in the limelight might be coming to a close. But somewhere in the middle sits the room spray, the mist-able yet chic home fragrance option that seems to be having a moment of its own.
