Roja Dove’s Haute Parfumerie at Harrods ~ shopping for perfume in London

Posted by Guest Shopper on 2 March 2008 — 0 Comments — Comments are closed

Haute Parfumerie at Harrods, London

Roja Dove’s temple of scent is part of something called the ‘Urban Retreat’. The word ‘retreat’ is significant here, as the place is tucked away on the top floor of Harrods, and something of a challenge to find.

The trick is to choose the right set of escalators. Ignore the fancy Egyptian escalators in the heart of the building, and instead look for the smaller white-walled space between the Cosmetics Hall and Hans Crescent. Ride this all the way to the fifth floor, and you’ll find yourself just outside the Urban Retreat (lots of niche skincare brands). Go in, and there’s a doorway ahead of you on the right, which takes you into the Haute Parfumerie.

If you’ve ended up on the Egyptian escalators, you’ll arrive on the fifth floor amid lots of sporting goods. The signs will direct you to the right for the Urban Retreat. Ignore them, and head left instead, through the bistro bar. This will deposit you right outside the Haute Parfumerie…

Roja Dove will be giving a lecture at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London on December 14 at 7:15 pm:

Roja Dove, Maestro of Fragrance and the world’s only Professeur des Parfums reveals the stories behind great couture perfume creations including Diorissimo for Christian Dior, L’air du Temps by Nina Ricci and Balenciaga’s Le Dix. Shiloh by Hors La Monde

Shiloh is the second fragrance release from Hors Là Monde, a small jewelry company founded in 2005 by Symine Salimpour. The new scent was developed by perfumer Michel Roudnitska, but at the moment, its notoriety is based on the recently resolved five-month trademark battle between Salimpour and actress Angelina Jolie over the rights to the name Shiloh…

Tepid fruit compote

Posted by Robin on 12 March 2007 4 Comments

If this is a fantasy, then let me have a dreamless sleep. It is cloyingly sweet. The fruity accords combined with the flowers make it sickly. Without wanting to turn people against me - who do these scents appeal to? It's like tepid fruit compote.

— Roja Dove, of the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie in Harrods, on Britney Spears' Midnight Fantasy, quoted in today's Daily Mail.

On celebrity fragrances: Roja Dove in the Guardian

Posted by Robin on 23 August 2006 4 Comments

Roja Dove, of the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie at Harrods, smells the latest celebrity perfume releases and finds most of them lacking:

He begins with Intimately Beckham. David's fares well: "The woods, the resins are actually rather good: cedarwood, myrrh, it has an amber note in it. It's a potentially nice smell. It has character," he says. With better ingredients it would be "a very, very interesting scent".

Read what he has to say about the rest of the fall's celebrity fragrance line up in the Guardian. Many thanks to loolyooly of Makeupalley for the link!
