Cucumber-melon-scented air fresheners

Posted by Robin on 14 June 2017 6 Comments

Call it a win for sensitive-nosed riders. Metro has abandoned plans to install more cucumber-melon-scented air fresheners on the Green Line.

The kerfuffle over a well-meaning olfactory endeavor came about last month, after Metro announced it had conducted a pilot to try to improve the smell on 6000-series trains by using air fresheners installed in the ventilation system.

Hints of rose and peppermint

Posted by Robin on 13 March 2017 6 Comments

It’s not often that you hear commuters talk about how much they enjoy the smells of the city bus. But this month in Singapore, taking a deep breath in through your nose might not be such a risky proposition for commuters. In fact, they might even pick up hints of rose and peppermint.

That’s the “signature scent” being deployed over the next month to entice people to use more public transit.

You have no idea how hard it is to smell 1,500 fragrances

Come November, Ocean Mist will be replaced with Season’s Greetings, which reminded me of hot apple cider and cinnamon when I sampled it. (After I tested both fragrances, my office smelled like Christmas in July.) The building will eventually rotate four fragrances, including White Blossom Tea and Cranberry Apple — the result of a painstaking selection process. “You have no idea how hard it is to smell 1,500 fragrances,” Mr. Ludwig said. “Your nose can become numb to anything.”

Essence of Lincoln

Posted by Robin on 15 August 2014 7 Comments

Designed to be dispersed through the ventilation system, the Essence of Lincoln is a fragrance that has hints of green tea, jasmine and tonka. The company says the scent exudes "luxury and warmth" and will help to create an "upscale, relaxing showroom experience." The scent should also mask the 'old people smell' as Lincoln has one of the highest average owner ages in the industry.

— The new ambient fragrance of Lincoln dealerships was developed by perfumer Rene Morgenthaler. Read more at Lincoln tries to hide the old people smell with new dealership perfume at World Car Fans.
