Perfume review: Rochas Femme, Vintage & New

Posted by Angela on 18 December 2006 66 Comments

Rochas Femme, print advert

I’m staring at my bottle of Rochas Femme right now, and try as I might, I can’t see its reputed resemblance to Mae West. To me, it looks a lot more like Mighty Mouse. Not only does Femme’s bottle not look like Mae West, but its fragrance wings past the fusty, comic actress and lands straight on Marilyn Monroe: Marilyn as she rises from an afternoon nap, intimate, warm, hair mussed.

Femme smells voluptuous and intensely personal. It is the smell of your mother on her still-warm bed when you were a girl, or the scent that a maid in a posh resort shakes from the sheets every day…

Kenzo Amour ~ fragrance review

Kenzo Amour perfume advert

Kenzo Amour, aka kenzoamour, is this year’s fragrance release from the house of Kenzo. Amour was created by perfumers Daphne Bugey and Olivier Cresp and features notes of cherry blossom, rice steam, white tea, frangipani, heliotrope, thanaka wood, incense, vanilla and musk. It was…

…inspired by a couple’s voyage through India, Japan and Vietnam.

“The basic idea was a voyage of love, of emotion, and a bird as a symbol of love,” explained Patrick Guedj, Parfums Kenzo’s creative director and head of marketing, referring to a multicolored turtledove featured on the fragrance’s packaging and in advertising. (via Women’s Wear Daily, 5/15/2006)

Amour starts with a sweet, highly stylised floral accord. After that, the floral notes rapidly fade into the backdrop, and the whole thing settles into a fluffy, cloud-like concoction of vanilla and musky woods…

Paco Rabanne Black XS fragrance for men

Posted by Marlen on 29 June 2006 6 Comments

Paco Rabanne Black XS for Men

One of the biggest surprises of 2005 was without a doubt Paco Rabanne’s Black XS for Men, created by perfumer Olivier Cresp. A subtle blend of lemon, kalamanzi (a citrus resembling a cross between mandarin and lime), tagete and sage with heart notes of cinnamon, tolu balm, black cardamom and praline, and base notes of palissander wood, black amber, patchouli and ebony wood, Black XS bears little resemblance to its XS predecessors and to put it as simply as possible, smells like a delicious blend of strawberries and patchouli…

…targets a more mature woman than Very Irresistible. Firmenich’s Olivier Cresp and Jean-Pierre Bethouart created the oriental floral. The top notes are fresh with essence of white thyme, mandarin orange from Calabria and essence of saffron. The middle note mixes maxillaria orchid, lily and ylang ylang, while the base note is made of tonka bean, vanilla, rosewood and oak wood absolute. (via cosmeticnews)

Ange ou Demon is an Eau de Parfum, and is available in 50 and 100 ml bottles and in matching body products.
