Georgia ~ shopping for perfume in New York City

Posted by Guest Shopper on 31 August 2008 — 0 Comments — Comments are closed

Georgia boutique, interior

The new boutique called Georgia is located on a slightly gritty block of Houston Street, where the graffitied and security-gated facades of other local businesses stand as reminders of the neighborhood’s industrial past. Georgia’s interior has preserved some authentically distressed surfaces, but the goods for sale are far from grungy. In the front area of the shop, long shelves display scented bath and body products and a few fragrances, accompanied by an impressive variety of sisal cloths, sea sponges, and other bath-time indulgences. White tiled walls are balanced by wooden flooring, antique-looking pressed-tin walls contrast with stainless steel fixtures, and high metal stools stand at a distance from a well-used leather armchair.

Behind the laboratory counter that runs the length of the boutique’s interior, neatly labeled bottles of perfumery ingredients are displayed on industrial shelving. Along the walls, large glass jars hold quantities of raw botanical materials…

Red Flower ~ shopping for perfume in New York City

Red Flower store exterior, New York City

Red Flower recently entered the field of perfumery with natural fragrances called Champa, Ambrette, and Guaiac, three certified organic blends of oils distilled and extracted from natural ingredients. This small Manhattan-based company was originally best known for its lushly scented candles, which were created to evoke specific flowers, fruits, and trees in their natural settings (no vanilla-sugar desserts or Christmas potpourri here!) and are uncannily true to their models. The candles are now accompanied by shower gels, lotions, haircare, and playful ball-shaped soaps in the same scents. Red Flower also offers two lines of therapeutic body treatments inspired by the legendary bath rituals of Turkey and Japan (with a third series to be introduced in 2009)…
