Rodin Olio Lusso Perfume & Ko Denmark Jasmine + Neroli ~ perfume reviews

Posted by Robin on 5 June 2012 54 Comments

More jasmine! A quick run through the jasmine tag here at Now Smell This reveals that I’m the main jasmine freak in residence. If you’re not a jasmine freak, sorry, come back tomorrow.

Rodin Olio Lusso Perfume

Rodin Olio Lusso Perfume

I was curious about Rodin Olio Lusso Perfume for two reasons. One, it’s jasmine, and as I already made clear above, I’m nearly always interested in jasmine. Two, it was developed by perfumers DS & Durga, and I’m very fond of their bold, rustic-chic indie style.

The Olio Lusso Perfume is apparently meant to capture the aroma of the Rodin brand’s Luxury Face Oil, which I’ve never used. Now that I’ve tried the perfume, I’m pretty sure I could find a way to fit the oil (or the hand & body cream!) into my skincare routine if only I could afford it…

The Monday Mail ~ help Zee find a new natural perfume

Posted by Robin on 21 May 2012 29 Comments

Buzón en La Habana Vieja

Today we’re helping Zee, who wants to find a new natural perfume that will work well on hot, sticky summer days, and have some staying power. She’s not a purist about naturals, but that’s what she’s looking for at the moment. She’s probably going to be doing all her shopping online. Here is what we know about Zee:

She’s a visual artist and textile designer in her late 30s.

She describes herself as bohemian yet sophisticated. She loves antiques and beautiful handmade things using natural materials.

She loves healthy food and strong coffee.

She dresses casually but with attention to detail and quality of material. She is conservative with color — urban greys, blacks, blues, but with the occasional pop of a brighter color.

Zee says she is a scentaholic — she loves reading about perfume, shopping for it, sampling new things, and taking perfume-making classes.

Zee loves a good rose, earthy notes like frankincense, a light touch of vetiver, ambery and animalic fragrances…

Aftelier Sepia ~ fragrance review

ghost town

About Aftelier Sepia, Mandy Aftel wrote, “In creating this perfume, one of the things that I especially like (yet also find especially difficult) is trying to translate an emotionally visual experience into an equally emotional perfume experience.”

This statement might lead you to think Sepia is an abstract fragrance without a figurative anchor, but that’s not true. But it’s also not true that Sepia is a Demeter-like recreation of an existing odor — in this case, the scent of the California ghost towns that inspired Sepia. Instead, Sepia is an unusual blend of mood and reality, a fragrance that evokes a definite physical presence as well as the aura surrounding it…

No warning on that orange

Posted by Robin on 17 April 2012 27 Comments

We want to make safe fragrances. But at the same time we’re restricted on some of the materials we use such as, for example, orange oil. If we use a very small amount of that then it must be listed on the labels of the products it’s going into as a possible allergen. Now if you go into a supermarket and buy an orange, when you peel it you get covered in the same oil that we’re being stopped from using. But there’s no warning on that orange saying it contains these same materials.
