Lazy weekend poll ~ Sean Connery’s birthday 2018

Posted by Robin on 25 August 2018 339 Comments

Sir Thomas Sean Connery is 88 today, and we're celebrating with a little Bond poll (it's sort of a repeat of a poll we did way back in 2008).

1. Who is your favorite Bond? (Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig)

2. What fragrance you think their version of Bond would wear?

3. Your all time favorite Bond movie?

4. Who do you think should play James Bond when Daniel Craig retires? Or should Bond just retire and be done with it?

Or, as always, just talk about something else. We don't mind at all.

Manipulating people through scent

Posted by Robin on 20 February 2018 4 Comments

Suskind's novel is set in 18th-century France and follows a serial killer with a superhuman sense of smell and an ability to manipulate people using specialized perfumes. Director Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run, Cloud Atlas) adapted the book into a 2006 feature film starring Ben Whishaw and Dustin Hoffman.

The new Perfume series shifts the action to the modern day and uses the book's idea of manipulating people through scent as a springing-off point. A young profiler investigating a series of brutal murders traces events back to a small cadre of boys at a boarding school who experimented with manipulating people using human scents.

— Munich-based Constantin Film, who developed the movie Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (based on the novel of the same name), has developed a spin-off television series. It is coming to Netflix this Fall. Read more at Berlin: Netflix Buys German 'Perfume' Series at The Hollywood Reporter.

You are then transformed into the forest

Posted by Robin on 27 April 2017 Leave a Comment

You are then transformed into the forest, standing in front of the biggest tree you have ever seen. Rain starts to fall. The water soaks into the soil – if you put your head close to the ground you can see the water getting pulled into the root system. At this stage the droplets have a bluer hue. As they stay in the tree, they redden, taking on the hues of the tree. An interactive scent score by Sensable’s Invisible Media & Entertainment evokes the scent of rain on the forest floor, the upsurge of minerals as nutrients are sucked into the roots, the tree’s bark as it responds to your touch and pulls you into its camphorous interior.

A trailer for the documentary film Perfume War, about grower Abdullah Arsala of Aghanistan and Barb Stegemann of Canadian perfume house The 7 Virtues. You can read more about the film at The Man Who Defied the Taliban by Growing Flowers at Pacific Standard:

Stegemann, who borrowed off her credit card after her bank refused her a loan, spent 2,000 Canadian dollars to purchase one cup of the bitter orange oil to produce her first perfume, Afghanistan Orange Blossom.

You can follow the film at Twitter or Facebook; it opens nationwide at Cineplex in Canada on April 14. As always, no political comments please!
