Hannah, who comments on Now Smell This as krokodilgena, wants to find a new “very strange and very dark” perfume. She has excellent access to perfume stores, and is willing to spend up to $150 for 50 ml. Here is what we know about Hannah:

She’s in her late teens, and she lives in the mid-Atlantic region of the US.

She’s planning to be a German major, but her dream was to be a lingerie designer.

Her favorite designers are Comme des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto, Junya Watanabe, Gareth Pugh, John Galliano, and Hedi Slimane.

She loves Indian and Thai food, and also loves art (favorite artists: Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt).

She does not usually like “classic or retro”.

Hannah wants her new scent to be dark and weird, but not goth…

The Monday Mail ~ help Lisa find a new perfume

This week we’re helping Lisa, who hasn’t worn perfume in 15 years because she can’t find one she likes. Lisa says everything she tries is too nondescript, too simple, too cloying or changes with her body chemistry so as to be unidentifiable. Her ex-boyfriend wore Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Mâle, and she loves it so much that she has worn it a few times, but she’d like to find something more feminine. She’s willing to spend up to $100, and has reasonably good access to stores. Here are a few more details about Lisa:

She’s in her late 30s and a “classic kind of girl”.

He style is hip but tailored for work; casual on the weekends…

The Monday Mail ~ help Katie find a new perfume

This week we’re helping Katie, who comments here as Katich. Katie is a newbie perfumista looking for her ideal daytime spring / summer fragrance. She’d like something that evokes warmth and sun, has polite sillage so she can wear it to work, and isn’t too perfume-y or artificial smelling. Ideally, it would cost around $50-70, but she’s willing to buy a decant if it isn’t outrageously priced. Here are a few details about Katie:

Katies is a “goofy extrovert” in her early 20s, and is a recent graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. She’s working as a researcher in a children’s hospital and planning to apply to grad school….

The Monday Mail ~ help Nadine find a new perfume

Nadine is today’s subject. She’s from Paris but is currently living in Berlin, and she’s had some trouble finding a new perfume. Actually, she’d like to find two: one for warm weather and one for cold, and…

…ideally the former would be written in the mirror language of the latter, or vice versa. Two perfumes which invoke the “sensual world” of Ulysses’ Molly Bloom, “the taste of seedcake from his wet mouth”… Something perhaps a little complicated but not troubling, more feminine than bordering on androgynous, a big secret one can share, coquette, touching and definitely more of a perfumed assault rather than breezy olfactory haiku.

Her price limit is around $200, and she has pretty good access to perfume stores. Here is what we know about Nadine:

She’s in her mid-20s and finishing a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature.

She has dark blond hair and green eyes.

She’s moody, complicated, melancholic and very sentimental, but also (she hopes) silly, funny and sometimes seductive and charming.

For music and clothes, Nadine says she is “drawn toward the mutant hybrids and the bastards”…

The Monday Mail ~ help Kate find a new perfume

Today we’re helping Kate, who thinks of herself as a “perfumista-in-training”. She is “fascinated with the concept of niche perfumery” and loves trying new things, but is having trouble finding a perfume she likes. Her perfect perfume would be feminine, sensual, sexy and complex, with no weird or harsh notes. She’d like soft rather than loud, and while she’d like to find something more sophisticated than the sweet gourmands she used to wear, she’s still like her new perfume to be “delicious”. She’d also like her new scent to cost less than $200, but she’s willing to entertain any suggestion. Here are a few things we know about Kate:

She’s in her 20s and lives in Vancouver, BC.

She describes herself as quiet, soft-spoken, and a girly-girl. She’s “very image-conscious” and loves fashion and makeup.

She’s petite and her style is “feminine and trendy”…
