Today we’re helping Susan, who says she has too many fragrances and wants to find that one perfect signature fragrance she can wear year-round. She usually buys her fragrances at department stores, but she’ll go online if need be, and she’s willing to spend up to $200. Here is what we know about Susan:

She’s a stay-at-home mom in her early 40s. She loves her family, her friends, and animals.

She also loves cozy mysteries, watching scary movies and knitting.

Susan likes florientals…

Today we’re helping Rochelle, who has loved perfume since she was 12 (she started with Love’s Baby Soft). She is a creature of habit and doesn’t like change, and she wants to find a perfect signature scent — sexy, warm, original, feminine and sophisticated — for around $150 or less.

Here is what we know about Rochelle:

She’s in her early 30s and lives in Minnesota.

She’s an avid gardener, and she keeps Aarabian jasmines, English roses, and geraniums on her balcony…

The Monday Mail ~ help Claire find a new perfume

Posted by Robin on 4 October 2010 67 Comments

Our subject today is Claire, who would like to find a signature scent for her first year of college. Claire is 18, and says she has “always loved the intricacy of classic perfumery” — her new fragrance should be rich and complicated, and should reflect her love of the classic and the unusual. She’d like to keep the cost under $150, and she’d prefer to shop online.

Here are some details about Claire:

Her style “tends towards the darkly feminine and poised, with a hint of the whimsical”…she likes to “combine the darkness, mystery and simplicity of 1930’s Hollywood with opulent, Marie Antoinette-like florals”.

She is a classically trained pianist, and music plays a large part in her life…

The Monday Mail ~ help Jesse find a new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 27 September 2010 74 Comments

Today we’re helping Jesse, who is looking for an adventurous evening scent — he doesn’t usually wear fragrance during the day. The right fragrance would be more Errol Flynn, less Tom Cruise. It should be something masculine and classic, but not too heavy, and he wouldn’t mind if it was the sort of thing that elicited compliments. He’d like to keep the cost at around $50 – 75, but he’d go up to $125 for the right thing. Locally, he is restricted to Macy’s, Ulta & Perfumania, but he goes to Chicago occasionally and he is willing to shop online. Here is what we know about Jesse:

Jesse just turned 30. He is from Alaska and currently living in the midwest.

He is a graphic artist by trade and a college biology student by night; he also moonlights as a DJ…

The Monday Mail ~ help Nick find a new perfume for his mom

Posted by Robin on 20 September 2010 42 Comments

Nick participated in the Monday Mail last year, and later that year, he commented on a feedback post to tell us how he did. Now he wants our help again, but this time for his mom, Julie — he’d like to find a distinctive everyday perfume that he can give her for Christmas. He can spend up to $200, and would welcome niche suggestions so long as they can be purchased online (Nick lives in Australia and doesn’t have great access to niche stores). Here is what we know about Julie:

She just turned 65 this year, but Nick says she is very young at heart and has the energy of a much younger woman…
