The Monday Mail ~ help Karla find a new perfume

Posted by Robin on 12 September 2011 33 Comments

The Monday Mail is back from summer vacation, and we’re starting off the fall season with Karla, who is looking for a new fragrance that she can wear to work (it should not be loud!) but that will carry over nicely into a happy hour or after-work reception. And, she’d love something that would work year-round. Karla lives in New York City, so access is not a problem, and she’s willing to spend up to $98. Here is what we know about Karla:

She’s a working mom in her late 30s.

She loves to have fun with friends and family, and to travel and go to concerts.

She says her taste is: “simple, fun, non-intrusive, but noticeable”.

Karla likes warm florals and sometimes white musks…

This is an open thread for participants in the Monday Mail articles to share their experiences, and hopefully let us know if they found what they were looking for (or went bankrupt trying). I’ve sent out emails requesting feedback from everyone who took part between January through April of this year, so check back over the next few days to see what we can find out.

Here are links to the articles for each participant…

The Monday Mail goes on vacation, again

Posted by Robin on 25 July 2011 Leave a Comment

I forgot to mention last Monday that the Monday Mail has gone on its annual summer vacation. It will be back briefly next Monday, for a feedback poll for participants from January through April 2011, then it's gone again until mid-to-late September.

The Monday Mail ~ help Rebecca find a new perfume

Today we’re helping Rebecca, who comments here as Lollipop. Rebecca would like to find a sexy summer fragrance. The perfect perfume would be unusual, have a fair amount of sillage, and cost less than $140. She has excellent access to perfume stores, and is also happy to shop online.

Here is what we know about Rebecca:

She’s in her early 40s and living in Provence.

She’s a mom to 3, and has an eclectic career history (lawyer to air stewardess to factory worker, not necessarily in that order).

She says she is a girly girl, very romantic and positive with an unconventional side.

Interests include ballet, running and gardening. She likes to take time to smell the roses, and to help people out. Her friends are very important to her.

Rebecca likes vetiver, rose, woody notes, linden, iris, hyacinth, tuberose sometimes, gardenia, mimosa, citrus, tea. She also loves the work of perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena (favorite: Vetiver Tonka) and she loves cheap thrills (Stetson). She likes gourmands…

We’re a day late because of the holiday weekend, but today we’re helping Amelia, who wants to find three new perfumes: a casual scent, a “night out” scent, and a wedding scent. She’d like the casual scent to be a budget item: no more than $20. She can pay up to $70 for the evening scent, and $80 for the wedding scent.

Here is what we know about Amelia:

She’s in her early 30s. She says she’s shy and calm, but a fun person to talk to once she feels comfortable with someone. She’s also humble and sincere, and pays attention to small details about her surroundings.

Amelia used to be a singer; she quit performing a few years ago but still loves singing. She loves to go out at night to hear live music and sip whiskey or wine and chat with her boyfriend.

Amelia says she doesn’t know much about fragrance notes, but she thinks she likes aldehydes, jasmine, rose and mixed florals…
