The Monday Mail ~ help Rena go perfume shopping in Brussels

Posted by Robin on 6 January 2020 11 Comments

Rena (some of you know her as thegoddessrena) is back for her third Monday Mail (see 2012 and 2013). She’s heading to Brussels at the end of the month, and hopes to do some perfume shopping while her husband attends a conference. She wants to buy 2 or 3 fragrances, and her total budget tops out at $600.

Her criteria:

She like to hear about fragrances she can’t easily smell in Boston, and if you know where she can smell them in Brussels that would be helpful too.

She prefers rich, full scents…

The Monday Mail on Tuesday ~ help Anna find a new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 12 December 2017 44 Comments

I am late, again, but hopefully not too late to help Anna. She wants to find a daytime fragrance, something light and suited to warm weather, but with good lasting power, to replace her discontinued favorite, Montblanc Starwalker. At the moment, her substitute is Diptyque Eau Duelle, and she does like it but she finds that it starts out strong, and then wears off too quickly.

She’d love to keep the price below $150, but she might be willing to go higher for true love. Here is what we know about Anna and her fragrance preferences…

The Monday Mail ~ help Amy find a new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 11 September 2017 71 Comments

Amy has a Monday Mail request — she needs help finding a particular “fragrance unicorn”. Her quest started when she passed an older woman in Boston who smelled “absolutely electric”. She was wearing Caron Poivre. Amy eventually managed to smell Poivre at the Caron boutique, but it no longer had the same “gutsiness” she remembered. Meanwhile, she has moved to Texas, where the heat makes it hard for her to wear dense fragrances. So Amy would love to find something with a Poivre-level spicy punch, but in a warm weather fragrance. Her maximum budget is $200 but she’d be thrilled to find something cheaper, and she’d like her new scent to be something that’s still in production (no hunting down vintage treasures, please). She’s fine with ordering samples online.

Amy is in her mid 20s. Her new fragrance doesn’t have to be work appropriate, but it has to be something she can wear in very hot weather…

The Monday Mail ~ help Chris find a new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 31 July 2017 62 Comments

We have another Monday Mail request. Chris wants our help deciding on his first “serious” fragrance purchase — he’s willing to invest some money and time to find the right scent — and he’d like to explore more niche lines. He’s looking for a day-wear signature scent, something that makes him feel good. While it doesn’t necessarily have to be entirely office-safe, it should be something that isn’t offensive to others. Chris lives near a big city so has good access to stores, and he can spend up to $300. Here is what we know about Chris:

Chris is in his early 30s and lives in the US.

In his free time, he likes hiking, swimming, standup comedy, technology and golf.

His perfect fragrance would be uplifting, masculine, and would stand out to some degree. He’d also like something with decent longevity…
