A blissful blend of wet herbs, roses and an almost steamy accord

Posted by Robin on 16 May 2022 4 Comments

I myself have been known to use hairsprays from Sam McKnight not only for the hairdresser’s signature “cool girl” mussed-up texture, but also for a hit of the sublime scent created especially for McKnight by British perfumer Lyn Harris. Inspired by the lingering aroma of McKnight’s beloved London garden after a heavy downpour, Harris’s creation is a blissful blend of wet herbs, roses and an almost steamy accord that is at once refined and sexy. One perfume PR – who has no professional connection with McKnight – tells me that Lazy Girl dry shampoo (at £19 it’s a fraction of the price of one of Harris’s perfumes) is his “special occasion fragrance”.

Back to her roots

Lyn Harris is the founder of Perfumer H, the boutique brand, shop and working laboratory she runs in London’s Marylebone neighbourhood. Harris is one of the most well-known names in the world of fragrance; she created her new label after leaving previous venture Miller Harris. Having studied the art of creating fragrances in her twenties under the tutelage of renowned perfumer Monique Schlienge, Harris moved to Grasse, spending five years at the prestigious French fragrance manufacturer Robertet.

Hot pursuit of lilacs

Posted by Robin on 10 May 2018 3 Comments

Lyn Harris is in hot pursuit of lilacs. On a recent spring morning, the revered British perfumer makes her way through a sea of wild grass and cow parsley in an untamed quarter of London’s Regent’s Park. “It’s so idyllic,” she says of the springtime scene: In this quiet corner, the incessant hum of central London traffic is eclipsed — almost — by birdsong and bell chimes from St. Marylebone Church.
