Try Street Perfume

Posted by Robin on 29 July 2017 4 Comments

Commuters waiting for their ride are presented with a chrome cylinder, the inside glowing blue, labeled “Try Street Perfume.” If they’re bold enough to stick their mitts into the mystery orifice, they’re rewarded with a spritz of hyperlocal fragrance—this week’s is “Economic Development”; “Hollywood Springtime” is next week’s offering.

[Alan] Nakagawa is the very first ”Creative Catalyst Artist-in-Residence” at the L.A. Department of Transportation, a year-long gig that involves working with the agency’s Vision Zero team to reimagine how people perceive streets.

A public nuisance

Posted by Robin on 10 April 2014 4 Comments

The Irwindale City Council has voted unanimously to declare the spicy smell of Sriracha hot sauce production a public nuisance.

Once the council adopts an expected official resolution at its next meeting, hot sauce maker Huy Fong Foods will have about 90 days to mitigate the odor, which residents say burns their eyes and throats at certain times of day.
