The (almost) daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 29 May 2019 2 Comments

Another limited edition body oil from Rodin that I won't buy but wouldn't (at all) mind owning: the Goddess Aurora Luxury Body Oil. "To start, immerse yourself in the skin-silkening nourishment and shining, vibrant scent of Italian Bergamot and Mimosa found in our Luxury Body Oil in Bergamot & Mimosa. This deliciously fragrant oil softens and smooths skin with a lightweight touch. Massage a bit into hands and apply to moist, clean skin just after a shower or bath. Perfectly refreshing for summer, or anytime skin craves moisture. Leaves skin glistening." $90 for 120 ml.

Pretty bottles of Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud (shown) and Myrrh & Tonka Intense, decorated for Ramadan by calligraphy artist Wissam Shawkat. They are limited edition and I don't know how widely they will be distributed — if you want one, you might want to contact your local Jo Malone counter and ask. Right now you can find the Myrrh & Tonka at Selfridges in the UK.

I am still lemming that darned Salta candle and here is another limited edition I could live with: the Cire candle. "The Cire scented candle is an olfactory representation of the manufacture: symbolic, it blends emanations of warm wax and perfumes being crafted. Reinterpreting Cire Trudon’s fundamental values - ancient savoir-faire and commitment to excellence - the scented candle reveals a unique perfume: behind the amber-colored glass, a beeswax absolute. Bees and beeswax have always been at the heart of the manufacture’s History: since the 17th century, Cire Trudon’s motto is “Deo regique laborant”, which means: “they (the bees) work for God and the King”. 2019 marks a turning point for the Maison, as Cire Trudon decided to financially help the Orne Dark Bee Conservatory, with the partnership of the Perche Nature Park. 4 percent of all sales of the Maison’s Cire candle will go toward the saving of Orne Dark Bees." $125.

Oh my goodness. Mitsouko is 100 this year, and just look what Guerlain is doing to celebrate: a bottle decorated by the Hakuichi gilding workshop and calligraphy artist Suitou Nakatsuka. 3099 were made — surely one of them will turn up at TJ Maxx, right?? 75 ml, €650.

Boxwalla Perfumer Series x Sigil Scents ~ fragrance review

Posted by Jessica on 16 May 2019 5 Comments

In December 2015 (was it really that long ago?!) I wrote a review of Boxwalla, a subscription service that offered surprise samplings of beauty products (or books, or films — multiple possibilities!). Now Boxwalla has introduced The Perfumer Series, limited edition boxes that showcase independent perfumers and their creations through sampling and shared exploration. Their first collaborator is Sigil Scent, an indie, all-natural fragrance brand based in Los Angeles.

Boxwalla’s “scent experience” of Sigil Scents consists of two phases. For the first phase, the “Learning/Discovery Phase,” you receive samples of four fragrances from Sigil Scent. For the second phase, “The Full Bottle Experience,” you decide which of the four scents is your favorite and submit your choice to receive a full bottle of it. Between the two phases, you’re invited to view and read conversations with Sigil Scents perfumer Patrick Kelly (via social media and email newsletters) as you try each scent…
