The daily lemming

From Lalique, the 2020 crystal limited edition of Lalique de Lalique, Orchidée. “It is the pure, round shape often chosen by René Lalique to showcase the floral décors of his perfume bottles that the House has elected for this new offering. Against a transparent crystal background that reveals the tender pink shade of the fragrance, graceful orchid branches bloom. As satiny as living flowers, the petals have gleaming polished reliefs to underline their design. The elegant flacon is crowned with a stopper in the shape of an orchid petal, its exceptionally delicate veins a demonstration of the outstanding skills of Lalique’s master-glassmakers.” 250 ml Parfum, $1800. (You can find a list of past editions here.)

In case anyone is still looking for the right holiday candle...here is this year's Forêt D’or from Annick Goutal (I do think last year's was nicer, though, and maybe also 2017). "Our beloved holiday scent in a limited edition package. Golden Wood. Une Forêt D’or conjures up that moment after a walk in the forest and then decorating your home with pine branches, fresh oranges and mandarins." $95 for 300g, or if you'd prefer the plainer green fluted glass (as shown here) it's $72 for 185g. The US site also shows a diffuser, but not the room spray (which used to be lovely, and which appears to still be available in some markets).

A limited edition holiday candle from Fragonard, decorated by Florence Balducci: "In its illuminated glass, the scented candle Bientot Minuit (Soon Midnight) illuminates the winter with its comforting pine notes: needles, sap and wood are infused in this candle and give it a festive air!" $48 at Beautyhabit.

Hiram Green Voyage 2019 ~ fragrance review

Posted by Angela on 11 November 2019 20 Comments

In autumn, I tend to lean on the fruity chypre portion of my perfume collection. But when the weather cools further, and nights become longer than days, I turn to oriental fragrances. A good oriental offers an olfactory blanket that warms better than a chinchilla coat.

The trouble is to find an oriental that doesn’t smell like a spice cookie or doesn’t pack so much amber that it fries your nasal hairs. Lately, I’ve relied on Guerlain Vol de Nuit, Arquiste Anima Dulcis, Etat Libre d’Orange The Afternoon of a Faun, and judicious spritzes of Serge Lutens Participe Passé (wow, is that stuff powerful) — among many others stuffed in a box labeled “cosy” in my perfume cabinet. If I had a bottle of Hiram Green Voyage 2019, it would fall into rotation, too…
