I wanted great products

Posted by Robin on 30 October 2021 3 Comments

Carter almost seemed to enjoy a moment, mid-afternoon, when Viola read aloud a 2014 email in which the rapper had written that “the partners” on the perfume release “suck.” The star was quick to tell the court (twice) that “the partners” referred to Parlux. “I wanted great products and these guys didn’t understand,” the star added. “It was so frustrating working with them.”

Adding insult to alleged injury, the fragrance company said the rapper rejected a design for a Gold Jay-Z bottle with an 18-karat gold exterior that was worth over $20,000, but that he pocketed the prototype.

Vile and sickening

The suit says the offensive odors are a byproduct of the factory’s manufacturing process, which strips fouls-smelling sulfur compounds from crude sulfate turpentine. The end result is a product that can be used for everything from sweet smelling candles to plug-in air freshers. But the extracted sulfur odor is “vile and sickening,” according to the lawsuit --- and as anyone who has smelled it can attest.

Peddling rip-off scents

Just last year, Gucci – along with a number of other well-known luxury perfume makers – scored a similar victory after using the same technique against Spanish company Equivalenza. The ironically named outfit, which was peddling rip-off scents, was found guilty on all three counts; illegal copying of original perfume, unfair competition and business reputation abuse.

An inclusive fragrance for all genders

According to Eris’ complaint, which was filed in a New York federal court late last week, since 2017, it has been using the trademark-protected “MX” mark on a “high quality” fragrance created by its founder Barbara Herman and “master perfumer” Antoine Lie. Advertised as “an inclusive fragrance for all genders,” the “MX.” name – pronounced “mix” – is “a play on the mixing process” that Eris used to create the scent, namely the “subtle mixing [of] notes that blur the boundaries between conventional binary ‘his’ and ‘hers’ scents.”

Olfactory molestation

If you’re not a good cook, it might be best to stay out of the kitchen — at least in Italy.

Cooks who allow an unpleasant scent to waft into their neighbor’s windows are now guilty of a crime, the country’s highest court ruled this week, according to a report from The Telegraph.

What’s the crime? “Olfactory molestation,” the Supreme Court of Cassation in Rome ruled.
