Four quick reviews: Bobbi Brown Bed, Ed Hardy Skulls & Roses, Nicole by Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson Vintage Bloom

Posted by Robin on 15 November 2012 26 Comments

In my continuing (hopeless!) effort to catch up on the 2012 releases before 2013, some very quick reviews: Bobbi Brown Bed, Ed Hardy Skulls & Roses, Nicole by Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson Vintage Bloom. Do feel free to add your own quick reviews of recent(ish) releases in the comments!

Bobbi Brown Bed

Bobbi Brown Bed perfume oil

Bobbi Brown Bed is a web-only limited edition, and it’s basically just a mixture of neroli, orange flower and jasmine in a cute (but small!) glass bottle. If you like all three notes and are after something simple, it might appeal — I found it very pleasant, with a bright but calming aspect that does, in fact, work well for bedtime. It’s also balanced enough, with perhaps a tilt towards the neroli, that it would work for either gender. Do bear in mind that it’s an oil, so it stays relatively close to the skin. If you want something similar but heavier on the jasmine (and with more oomph in general), try Rodin Olio Lusso Perfume…

Four celebrity perfumes: Taylor Swift Wonderstruck, Beyonce Pulse, Jessica Simpson I Fancy You & Sean John Empress

Posted by Robin on 8 November 2011 47 Comments

Angie’s post yesterday on celebrity fragrances she’d like to see reminded me that I have fallen woefully behind this year on reviewing celebrity fragrances — the real ones that she’d rather not see. So, in the interest of catching up before it’s too late, here are four celebrity fragrance reviews, listed in order from not so very bad to not so very wonderful. In other words, we’re going to start out lukewarm and things are going to go downhill from there; consider yourself warned.

Taylor Swift Wonderstruck

Taylor Swift Wonderstruck

I was wonderstruck reading the recent New Yorker profile on country pop star Taylor Swift. I had heard her name, but had no idea — number 7 on Forbes’ list of Most Powerful Celebrities? More albums sold in the last five years than any other musician? Who knew? Anyway, her debut perfume came out this fall under a licensing deal with Elizabeth Arden, and it’s about what you’d expect: a “charming and sparkling surprise of vibrant fruits, kissed by a bouquet of soft petals and a touch of sweet indulgence.” In other words, it’s a sweet-ish fruity floral with plenty of vanilla in the base, along the lines of Britney Spears Fantasy, and while there’s not much to distinguish it from the two bazillion other variations on Britney Spears Fantasy, it’s perfectly wearable and it’s reasonably age-appropriate for the target market…

Jessica Simpson I Fancy You ~ new perfume

Jessica Simpson I Fancy You perfume

Jessica Simpson will launch a new fragrance for women, I Fancy You, at the end of June. I Fancy You follows 2008’s Fancy, 2009’s Fancy Love and 2010’s Fancy Nights. I Fancy You “celebrates the moment we discover what it means to be in love”, and will reportedly be the last fragrance in the Fancy collection…

Jennifer Lopez Love and Glamour, Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights ~ two (brief) celebrity perfume reviews

Posted by Robin on 4 November 2010 46 Comments

Jennifer Lopez Love and Glamour

Jennifer Lopez Love and Glamour

It’s getting hard to keep up with Jennifer Lopez, not least because my local Macy’s no longer carries all of her fragrance releases (Britney Spears has likewise been relegated to mass market). I sniffed My Glow quickly on paper when I ran across it in Walgreens (and pretty promptly forgot all about it), but Blue Glow and LA Glow will have to remain unsniffed mysteries. Love and Glamour is her latest effort, and apparently Macy’s consented to provide it counter space…
