Lush Tender is the Night Massage Bar ~ scented body product review

Posted by Jessica on 21 February 2014 12 Comments

Lush Tender is the Night Massage Bar

In early February of last year, I stopped at a Lush boutique to try out the limited edition products for Valentine’s Day 2013. I was intrigued by an item called Tender is the Night, but I decided not to purchase or review it because it would be gone in a week or so; what was the point? Just two weeks ago, I noticed that Lush had re-released this product. When a sales associate cheerfully informed me that it was now part of the year-round collection, I pounced. I needed a little late-winter pick-me-up, anyway!

The new-and-improved Tender is the Night massage bar is oval-shaped with a pink floral ornament, rather than heart-shaped as it was last year, and supposedly it has an improved formula with a new “aerated” texture. My memory might be playing tricks on me, but I think its fragrance has also been adjusted. I remember last year’s version smelling strongly of jasmine, like Lush’s hot-pink Lust bar soap…

Like nighttime and strawberry jam

Posted by Robin on 16 December 2013 7 Comments

We wanted to keep this jasmine because it has a particular smell. What is special about this jasmine is that it has a slight green tea smell and a sweetness -- a molecule that is also found in strawberries.

It doesn't smell like flowers in fact, rather a sensual potion. Like nighttime and strawberry jam.

Aerin Lilac Path, Ikat Jasmine & Gardenia Rattan ~ perfume reviews

Aerin Lilac Path and Ikat Jasmine

Aerin Lauder launched her own lifestyle brand, Aerin, in 2011, and she’s already selling all sorts of random lifestyle stuff, which is, after all, the whole point of a lifestyle brand — license your name out to all sorts of manufacturers, rake in some dough. So they’ve got lamps, lipsticks, shoes, eyeglasses, candles and whatnot, and more is on the way. Her beauty and fragrance license, as you surely have already surmised, is with Estée Lauder, and the first collection of five fragrances was introduced last month, with the outer boxes decorated with designs from her Aerin fabric line. Today I’m smelling three of the perfumes: Lilac Path, Ikat Jasmine and Gardenia Rattan. I will try to get to the others, Amber Musk and Evening Rose, next week.

I had sort of imagined that for her debut fragrances, Lauder would do something similar to the upscale Private Collection scents she designed for the Estée Lauder brand…

L’Occitane Passionate Jasmine, Subtle Violet and Fleur d’Or & Acacia shea hand creams ~ scented body product review

L'Occitane Passionate Jasmine, Subtle Violet and Fleur d'Or & Acacia shea hand creams

I am a little surprised to see we’ve never reviewed one of L’Occitane’s shea butter hand creams, but hey, most of you are probably familiar with the product — according to L’Occitane, they sell one every three seconds. It’s a thick hand cream in a metal tube, sometimes with colorful decorations, sometimes without. The formula is 20% shea butter,1 but it sinks in nicely and doesn’t leave hands greasy. And it works, or at least, I find that it works quickly when my hands are parched in the winter.2 The metal tubes seem to hold up pretty well, which is more than I can say for some metal tube hand creams, which split along the sides before you’ve finished the product.3

Happily for perfumistas, L’Occitane regularly introduces new limited edition fragrances — actually, I’m not sure I’ve ever tried the “regular”, non-scented version, but I often have one of the 30 ml travel tubes, in one scent or another, tucked in my purse…

Andrea Maack Coal, Jimmy Choo Flash, Strange Invisible Perfumes Likewise ~ quick fragrance reviews

Several quick reviews of recent(ish) fragrances: Andrea Maack Coal, Jimmy Choo Flash, Strange Invisible Perfumes Likewise.

Feel free to add your own quick reviews of recent releases in the comments!

Andrea Maack Coal

Andrea Maack Coal

Coal is Reykjavík-based artist Andrea Maack’s sixth fragrance, and it was inspired by one of her drawings made with black coal:

It captures the feeling of creating this piece, the smudge on the fingertips, the coal falling down the white paper as the hand moves creating a pattern and the broken pieces at the bottom of the page.

If that sounds a little weird in a Comme des Garçons kind of way, then you’ve got exactly the right idea…
