Annick Goutal Le Jasmin perfume review

Posted by Robin on 15 May 2007 36 Comments

Annick Goutal soliflores

Le Jasmin is one of a series of soliflore fragrances from Annick Goutal (others include Le Muguet, La Violette, Le Chèvrefeuille and Néroli). It was originally released as a limited edition in 2004, and has been recently relaunched, again as a limited edition. Like the others, Le Jasmin was created by Camille Goutal in collaboration with perfumer Isabelle Doyen, and the notes include jasmine, magnolia and ginger.

A commenter yesterday described Serge Lutens A La Nuit as “moist, humid, sultry, alive”, and those four adjectives neatly sum up its character…

Serge Lutens A La Nuit perfume review

Jasmine on black

The weather here is perfect, at last. The days have been warm and sunny, but not too hot. The nights have been just cool enough that you need something long sleeved, and it is on spring nights such as these that I tend to reach for the headier white florals. Last night’s fragrance: A La Nuit, by Serge Lutens. Like most all the line, it was developed by perfumer Christopher Sheldrake, and the notes include jasmine (Egyptian, Indian, Moroccan), green shoots, cloves, white honey, benzoin and musk.

My testing notes from the first time I tried A La Nuit say quite simply: “your basic death by jasmine”, and that is entirely accurate, I think, for the top notes, which are as close to being buried alive in flower petals as anything else I can think of…

She says/he says: L’Artisan Parfumeur The Pour Un Ete

L'Artisan Thé Pour Un ÉtéL'Artisan Thé Pour Un ÉtéL'Artisan Thé Pour Un Été

L’Artisan released Thé Pour Un Été in 1996. The fragrance was created by Olivia Giacobetti, and has notes of peppermint, lemon, jasmine, and green tea. Like Ananas Fizz, this was originally released as a summer limited edition, but proved to be such a popular scent that it was added to the regular L’Artisan line.

Marlen, one of the moderators from the basenotes forum, is joining me, and for once, we agree!

He says: My first sniff of Bvlgari’s Thé Vert left me a little disappointed. I was hoping for dreamy, soft and green, and instead, I got herbal, sharp and “where the heck did it go?” My prayers were quickly answered, however, with L’Artisan’s Summer Tea, a melange of jasmine and green tea with a hint of mint and citrus…

Fragrance of the day: Miller Harris Jasmin Vert

Posted by Robin on 21 July 2005 23 Comments

Miller Harris Jasmin Vert perfume

Jasmin Vert is one of the Nouvelle Edition fragrances from Miller Harris, and has notes of boronia flowers, green mandarin, grapefruit, jasmine sambac, rose, jonquil, violet leaves, santal, foin absolute.

Jasmin Vert starts very bright and effervescent, with a touch of citrus and hints of sweet summer fruits. It stays bright and summery as it dries down into a ripe, full jasmine with subtle traces of jonquil and hay. It is perhaps a tad indolic, but not overly so. My nose is probably jaded by all the deep green scents I am wearing this summer (Miller et Bertaux no. 3, Gobin Daude Sous le Buis, and CB I Hate Perfume CB 93), but I find it lightly green at most.

It is a wonderful summer perfume for jasmine fans…

The Different Company Jasmin de Nuit ~ perfume review

Posted by Robin on 18 March 2005 12 Comments

Jasmine de Nuit perfume by The Different CompanyJasmine de Nuit perfume by The Different Company

Jasmin de Nuit is the latest fragrance from The Different Company, and the line’s first release created by Celine Ellena, daughter of well-known nose Jean-Claude Ellena. I believe that I read somewhere (but as usual can’t find the link) that Celine Ellena has spent some years creating fragrances for cosmetics. This is her first major perfume release, although she also created the now discontinued Biotherm Relax.

The notes for Jasmin de Nuit are bergamot, black currant, egyptian jasmine, star anise, cinnamon, cardamom, sandalwood, musk and amber. According to The Different Company, the fragrance has unusually high concentrations of Egyptian jasmine absolute, a variety which is said to have a fruitier undertone than those more commonly used in perfumery.

Jasmin de Nuit starts with lush, rich jasmine and just a touch of bergamot…
