The Unicorn Spell by LesNEZ ~ fragrance review

Posted by Robin on 3 November 2006 20 Comments

The Unicorn Spell by LesNEZ

The Unicorn Spell is one of the three debut fragrances from LesNEZ, a new niche perfume brand founded by René Schifferle. The scents were developed in collaboration with perfumer Isabelle Doyen, best known for her work with Annick Goutal. LesNEZ is one of those lines that doesn’t like to disclose fragrance notes (I hate that!) so we’ll have to lead off with Isabelle Doyen’s description of The Unicorn Spell:

If by dawn still linger on your skin mixed scents of leaves, frost and violet blooms, and that relentless yearning for stellar sights, you will know that, at night, you felt the milky breath of a unicorn…

Annick Goutal Songes fragrance

Songes is the latest fragrance release from the house of Annick Goutal. It was created by Camille Goutal in collaboration with perfumer Isabelle Doyen, and was said to have been inspired by the scent of frangipani flowers at sunset on the island of Mauritius. The notes are frangipani, tiare, jasmine notes, incense, vanilla, copahu balm, pepper, ylang-ylang absolute, vetiver, sandalwood, amber and styrax.

Songes starts with a trio of tropical flowers…

Annick Goutal Le Chevrefeuille ~ perfume review

Posted by Robin on 11 May 2005 34 Comments

honeysuckle

Today I am wearing one of my favorite honeysuckle fragrances, Le Chèvrefeuille by Annick Goutal. Le Chèvrefeuille was released in 2002, and was the third in a series of limited edition soliflores, after Le Muguet and La Violette. It was created by Isabelle Doyen and Camille Goutal, and features honeysuckle, green notes, narcissus, jasmine, lemon petitgrain.

Le Chèvrefeuille opens with sharp citrus notes, and settles into a very green honeysuckle. There are hints of narcissus and jasmine, but the honeysuckle stays in the forefront. Honeysuckle is so often overwhelming in perfume, as though the flower had been placed on steroids, but the Annick Goutal is bright, sparkling, and summery, and not at all cloying…

Perfume review: Annick Goutal Mandragore

Posted by Robin on 6 April 2005 41 Comments

Annick Goutal Mandragore

Mandragore is the latest fragrance release from the Annick Goutal line. It was developed by her daughter Camille in collaboration with Isabelle Doyen, the house nose.

Mandragore is, as far as I know, the first fragrance to feature the scent of mandrake, a Eurasian plant with purple flowers and a forked root, long thought to have magical powers. The other notes include bergamot, black pepper, ginger, spearmint, star anise, boxwood, and sage leaf.

Mandragore starts out with dense bergamot and spice notes…
