2 for Tuesday: Le Labo The Noir & Nomenclature Iri_del

Posted by Robin on 27 October 2015 18 Comments

Quick fragrance reviews of Le Labo Thé Noir 29 and Nomenclature iri_del.

Le Labo Thé Noir 29

Le Labo Thé Noir 29

We all know better by now than to expect anything from the perfume names at niche line Le Labo: they’re named for the note in greatest concentration, NOT for the note that “stars” in the fragrance. And I do know that, but I just can’t help myself. I was hoping for a big black tea (preferably a nicely smoked Earl Grey) from Thé Noir 29 and was consequently disappointed by this fresh, pale amber-y wood with hints of fig and a slight rose-y floral note…

Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendre ~ fragrance review

Posted by Angela on 19 October 2015 21 Comments

Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendré brand background image

Iris must be the Meryl Streep of fragrance notes. In Frédéric Malle Iris Poudre, she plays a 17th century lady at her dressing table. In Le Labo Iris 39, she’s the earthy bohemian mistress with an intellectual bent. In Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist, she’s the wild child with aristocratic roots and a pagan godmother.

orange iris on green

No, it isn’t fall yet, but in case you’re planning ahead (or just sick of summer), here are five iris fragrances to consider as the air takes on a bit of a chill and darkness falls a bit earlier every day. If you missed it, do see my list of iris picks for summer.

Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue: I included “regular” Infusion d’Iris on my summer list, but the Absolue version is the one I reach for more often, year round. As you’d expect from the name, it’s more…

Living Lalique, brand image for London

Living Lalique is the latest pillar fragrance for women from the Lalique brand. I adore Lalique Encre Noire (the one for men), but by and large the recent feminine fragrances (Amethyst, Encre Noire Pour Elle, Fleur de Cristal, Satine, L’Amour and Azalée) have not interested me, other than the bottles, which are generally every bit as covetable as you’d expect from a company that’s in the business, after all, of making pretty glass.

If I had to pick a modern Lalique perfume for women, Living Lalique would be my choice, easily…

5 perfumes: iris fragrances for summer

Posted by Robin on 9 June 2015 90 Comments

Iris in vase

Iris is one of my favorite perfume notes, but some versions are arguably too earthy and deep for really hot weather, to say nothing of really hot humid weather. Here are five that won’t overwhelm when the mercury climbs:

Prada’s Infusion d’Iris: The gold standard for a summer iris perfume is probably Prada’s light-as-air Infusion d’Iris, which many of us wear year-round…
